Please note:
1. Expected grades – If your child continues to work the way they are currently doing
so, this is the most realistic grade they will achieve at the end of the GCSE course.
2. Exam grades – This is the grade your child achieved in their recent mock exams.
5. Missing grades indicate long term teacher absence. If this is the case, please contact
your child’s Progress Manager or subject teacher for an update. In the case of
assessment grades, an Abs indicates that no assessment was sat in that subject or a
pupil was absent for the assessment.
From Easter 2017 students have left with numbers instead of the traditional letter grades in
the majority of their subjects. These government reforms of GCSEs continued until Easter
2019, when students left leave with numbers in all GCSE subjects. A rough equivalence
table is shown below. Please note that some of the new 1-9 grades don’t exactly equate to
old A*-G grades.
Effort grades
These are a best fit based on the sort of learning behaviours displayed by your child in each
subject. Specific areas of concern are identified with Behaviour for Learning grades.

asked.
BFL grades
If a student receives an effort score of 0 or 1, they should also have up to three BFL grades
recorded. These BFL grades highlight aspects of the student’s effort that need to improve.
D = Disruptive behaviour
E = Lack of equipment
I = Inattentive in class
P= Punctuality
R = Thinking Reading
A BFL grade of R for a specific subject indicates that the student has been participating in
the Thinking Reading Programme and has spent some or all of those subject lessons
improving their literacy skills.
