The Simpsons:

Every episode en the Simpsons starts with an opening sequence. First we see Bart
Simpson ..........at.........Springfield Elementary School writing lines ....on............... the class
chalkboard as a punishment. This time he is writing: “I will not sell school property.” When the bell
RIN / RINGS , Bart stops writing and leaves the school very quickly on his skateboard.

Then we see Homer Simpson (at) the Nuclear Power Plant. He is HOLD /HOLDING a bar of
uranium. As he is not very careful, he DROP / DROPS the bar on uranium and it gets stuck to his
back. We can see Mr Burns, the owner of the plant, and Smithers, his assistant, in the background
looking...........at......... a plan.

The next shot shows Marge Simpson and baby Maggie..............at...... a supermarket. Marge is
READ READING a magazine. The cashier SCAN / SCANS Maggie and drops her into Marge’s
shopping cart. Then we see Lisa Simpson in her school music class. Mr Largo, the music teacher,
orders Lisa LEAVING / TO LEAVE the band. Lisa obeys him but continues to play the saxophone.

The family returns home. We see Homer..........in.......his car. He realizes he has something on his
back. He pulls the uranium bar off his back and throws it into the street. Bart SKATEBORD
SKATEBOARDS on the sidewalk. Then we see Marge driving very fast and beeping the horn on her
car.

The Simpsons arrive home. Homer arrives first and parks his car .....in... front of the garage.
Then Bart arrives on his skateboard. He skates over the top of Homer’s car and then goes into the
house. Lisa arrives on her bike and finally Marge and Maggie come home. All the members of the
family run to the living room and sit.........on..........the couch ready to watch TV. The family’s pets:
a cat named Snowball II and a dog called Santa’s Little Helper appear in the couch scene which is
different in every episode.

Bart’s Monologue:

Hello! I (am) Bart Simpson. I ..... (live) in Springfield. Springfield is in the United States. It
is called Springfield ............... (because )a man called Jebediah Springfield founded the town.
People say he .................. (killed) a bear with his hands!! There is a statue of Jebediah Springfield
in the square. Some time................ (ago) I cut off Jebediah’s head. That was a big mistake. !

As I said, I live in Springfield with my family.. I have two ............(sisters), Lisa and Maggie. Maggie
is a baby. She can’t talk. She is always sucking her pacifier. She can’t ...................(walk) . She can
only crawl. She................(is) one year old.

Lisa ...........(is) wight rears old. She is in second grade. She is a very good student.

was a soldier in Vietnam.

Milhouse is my best...............(friend). He is very shy. He wears glasses. He is allergic to honey and

tavern. He is very careless. On one occasion, hen he was taking care of Maggie, she................
(escaped) form the house and disappeared.

plant. He is very mean and ambitious. He is very old and he ..........(lives) in a mansion. All the
people in Springfield hate him. Once he was shot but her recovered. Mr. Smithers is Burns’
executive assistant. He..............(loves) Mr Burns and is always ready to serve him.

My mother’s name is Marge. She ..................(is) 34 years old. She is a housewife. Before she
married my father she worked as a roller-skating waitress. Her hair is blue and she is always
shouting at me. I have many hobbies. I love sports. I like..................(skateboarding), playing soccer
and basketball. I like fishing too. Once I ..........(caught) a fish with three eyes!!!! I also like watching
TV. My favourite show is the Itchy and Scratchy show. I also ..................(read) comic books and pay

THE SIMPSONS (description)

The Simpsons are a popular cartoon family. They are yellow, ugly, and have big bulging eyes. The
Simpsons represent the typical middle-class American family. The father, Homer Simpson, works in
a nuclear power plant. He is bad-tempered., irresponsible and lazy. He is very impulsive. He is fat
and bald. He loves drinking beer and eating junk food. When he is not at work, he is at home
watching TV or at Moe’s tavern with his friend Barney.

Homer is married to Marge and together they have three children. Thy met at high school. Marge
is a housewife. She has a big blue hairdo and always wears a necklace. She is a loving mother who
takes care of the children, the pets and Homer.

Bart is the eldest of the Simpsons children. He is ten years old. He is mischievous and funny. He
misbehaves at home and at school. He is not a good student and is usually mean to his sister. He
worships Krusty the clown, his TV hero.

Lisa is eight years old. She is the most sensitive , intelligent and talented child in the Simpsons
family, but is totally ignored by her father. Maggie is the youngest child. She is one year old and
although she can’t speak she is an important character in the show.

Ned Flanders is the Simpsons’ religious neighbour. Apu is an Indian man who immigrated to
Springfield and opened a supermarket. Selma and Pat, Marge’s twin sisters, are fat, ugly and are
always smoking. Chief Wiggum is an overweight and corrupt police officer.

The Simpson was created by Matt Groening in 1987 . The show has been on TV since 1989.
According to the creator of the show, “The Simpsons’” is inspired by a combination of his family
and the TV programmes he watched when he was a child. Some of the Simpsons family are named
after his own family. Groening’s father’s name was Homer, his mother’s name is Margaret and his
sister’s names are Lisa and Maggie. Even his mother looked like Marge. She used to have an
enormous beehive hairdo.
