NVIDIA brings Artificial Intelligence to everyone, including its Information Technology
Organization that leverages their own AI Technologies to enhance operational efficiencies, solve complex problems, and reduce expenditures. As AI technology continues to advance, it is emerging as an asset for the company, to capture numerous benefits to both consumers and employees. AI is used within the company for their machines to perform tasks such as visual and speech recognition, decision-making language translation, and “to have a sense of reasoning and the sorts of things that humans exhibit.” Vice President of AI and Machine Learning under the CIO at NVIDIA, Rama Akkiraju, states, "NVIDIA is an AI company. AI is at the center of everything we build, and therefore we will leverage our own technology, we use it internally everywhere.” Artificial intelligence is applied in many areas within the company, such as optimizing employee productivity, supply chains, human resources domains, and other important domains throughout the company. “For example, we are building chatbots [that] can be in cybersecurity, detecting insider and outsider threats and preventing them or alerting them,” stated Vice President Akkiraju. AI is also used to solve real-life problems at NVIDIA, such as getting help from a chatbot to find information quickly or it is used to build operational efficiency models for Information Technology. For example, if a system were to go down, an employee would be able to ask the chatbot questions like you would ask a coworker or the chatbot would quickly try to find a diagnosis. Senior Director of Information Technology, Ashwin Jha, exclaims how “NVIDIA is at the center of AI Revolution and Advancements.” He goes on to explain how ChatGPT, a chatbot developed in OpenAI. It is powered by their product called the NVIDIA DGX™ AI supercomputer. “Its magical capabilities have captured the world’s imagination,” stated Jha. However, NVIDIA and its employees find AI challenging in certain areas. “Sometimes it hallucinates, it could be used for all the wrong reasons, like propagating fake news or creating hate speech or biases,” Akkiraju exclaimed. The vice president of AI, explains that it can be “quite dangerous and one has to be taken seriously.” When using AI, NVIDIA must take extra precautions when applying expert systems in specific areas of the company. If not taken seriously, it can cause unpleasant outcomes of risking sensitive information and leaking data to other competitors. However, Akkiraju isn’t convinced of being afraid of using AI within their systems. “Very powerful advanced technology always comes with its risks, [but] that’s no reason to shy away from using it. We have to be very responsible with our regulations, with the way we use it for the right reasons and guard railing properly,” Akkiraju passionately stated. As AI progressively becomes more advanced, NVIDIA plans its enterprise to be fully automated. The company's AI enterprise is a platform that accelerates data science pipelines and streamlines the development and deployment of production-grade AI applications. “We can envision AI being infused into every business process [in] every aspect of our daily work, it’s personalized, contextualized for our employees and our business.” Akkiraju proclaims. “We are able to interact with our business systems using natural language speech.” While artificial intelligence begins to evolve within the company, there are still many trials and errors, there are many aspects of AI benefiting NVIDIA. “AI is here to stay and it’s here to transform many industries. It’s going by what some scientists say is the new electricity,” Akkiraju says. Sources
