into writing. I moved from Belfast to London for acting and then when I was over there, I decided to
enter the BAFTA Rocliffe writing competition and ended up getting selected for that. When you’re
selected you get to do a performance piece and industry people come along. Luckily BBC Northern
Ireland were over for it, and they were putting together a team for a new show called 6 Degrees.
That led to me going onto the writing team. It started from there really. After that I wrote on lots of
CBBC and other children's dramas before I made the leap into more grown-up drama. The two areas
work exactly… When you’re starting out, the TV world can feel incredibly intimidating, and
difficult to get your head around. If you’re reading this and wondering whether you’ll ever be able
to break in – trust me, this is the hardest part, and I’m here to tell you that it gets easier! This is your

annual Open Call may be invited to take part in our Drama Room or Voices writer development
groups. (UK 2nd Edition) The Verb is a weekly "Cabaret of the Word", featuring the best poetry, new
writing and performance, presented by Ian McMillan. The Verb is a longstanding collaborator with
BBC Writers, offering the chance for writers from our development groups (including
Scripted, Writers' Access Group, and Voices) to garner a short audio drama commission - and also
the opportunity to appear on the show. We look for new writers in a number of different ways. Our
team members across the UK regularly attend new writing events, plays, festivals and screenings of
new work where we can meet writers and talk to them about their work and career aspirations. We
also work closely with industry partners and colleagues to share information about promising new
writing talent. However, the main way that we discover new voices is through our annual Open Call

explore the book Simon Sock by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra and learn about using capital letters,
discuss what makes a good friend and write about their own hobbies. The Institute of Continuing
Education (ICE) is home to the University of Cambridge Centre for Creative Writing, and this panel
discussion is designed to open your mind to new possibilities in your reading and writing. Other
events on the day include, talks, workshops, and a panel discussion. Book a full day for a maximum

(writer) - The setting and backdrop for This Town is 1981, Birmingham and Coventry. ‘81 was a
time of turmoil and change in every sense - in society, in politics but in music as well. This series
opens with a riot and I hope the sense of ‘riot’ continues throughout the whole thing. The riot was a
real thing, it happened in Handsworth, Birmingham and I’ve used that to introduce four very
different characters who will come together. Drama Room is a one-year writer development
programme for emerging writers who demonstrate a distinctive, original voice and an understanding
of the fundamentals of writing for TV but who do not have a professional television credit. Write
Across is a short local 6–8-week programme aimed at identifying exciting and diverse new voices,
those who are at the beginning of their writing journeys and helping to demystify the process of
