Newspaper Article
- The Newspaper article is not that common
- The Magazine article is very common, especially in Paper 1
- The headline should be catchy and informative and in the
present tense
- The headline should be in bold.
- Magazine articles are creative texts that deal with real-life
events and issues.
Structure of a Magazine
Article

1. Headline
2. By-line is the name of the writer, in this case, you can write your name
3. Sometimes they will give you a headline so you don’t have to come up with one yourself
4. Any writing has an introduction, body and conclusion
5. The introductory part of the magazine article should be catchy, informative and creative
so that you can be able to grasp the attention of the reader
6. The interesting lead is also known as the introduction
7. The billboard or the body of a magazine article. This includes detailed information about
what the article is all about. Any of the 5 WH questions (who, what, where, when, why)
or information that you have not covered in the lead can be included.

8.Subtopics are not a must per-say. Some subtopics are used to tell
us what each paragraph is all about. For example, if you have 5
paragraphs then they should each have a subtopic. This is not a must.
 Memorable conclusion – summarize the article, and express your
opinion in order to leave the reader with something to think about.
Your opinion is also not a must. Sometimes they can ask you to
write your personal opinion from what you have read.
NOTE

Directed writing means you have to answer the questions according to the three
questions given under the instructions.
Start off your writing with the first question asked, and structure your paragraphs
using;
P- WHAT IS YOUR POINT
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
I-Inference or evidence from the text, what is the text saying about the point
you are talking about
P- personal response, what is your personal opinion about that particular
point?
S- Solution. Is there a solution you could offer about the point or you are in
agreement?
