We must first determine the relative frequency for each category and then the cumulative relative

frequency in order to fill in the blanks.

As stated:

Frequency of students taking 1 course = 30

Frequency of students taking 2 courses = 15

Total number of students surveyed = 50

Proportion of students taking exactly two courses:

Relative Frequency of students taking 2 courses = Frequency of students taking 2 courses / Total

number of students

Relative Frequency of students taking 2 courses = 15 / 50 = 0.3

Proportion of students taking one or two courses:

Relative Frequency of students taking 1 or 2 courses = Relative Frequency of students taking 1

course + Relative Frequency of students taking 2 courses

Relative Frequency of students taking 1 or 2 courses = 0.6 + 0.3 = 0.9

Now, we can fill in the table:

# of Courses Frequency Relative Frequency Cumulative Relative
Frequency
1 30 0.6 0.6
2 15 0.3 0.9
3 5 0.1 1

So, the proportion of students taking exactly two courses is 0.3, and the proportion of students

taking one or two courses is 0.9.
