Romeo and Juliet


A tragic play was written by William Shakespeare during in his early
career.
A play about two young star-crossed lovers ultimately their death
reconcile the feuding families.
A play under Renaissance Theatre

▪ It said that the real Romeo and Juliet were from Siena, but since
Shakespeare was so affectionate of Verona, he placed the story there.
▪ It is where the story of doomed lovers published by a writer from
Siena who insisted it was based on real people.

Principal source of Shakespeare for the plot was The Tragicall
Historye of Romeus and Juliet (a long narrative poem by the English
poet Arthur Brooke, who had based his poem on a French
translation of a tale by the Italian Matteo Bandello).

Over last 50 years
Many have attempted to translate the plot of Romeo and Juliet into the
modern era. The most famous of these is Leonard Bernstein's West
Side Story and Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, starring Claire Danes
and Leonardo DiCaprio.

 William Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet, one of the plays
under Renaissance theatre.
 The history starts when the real Romeo and Juliet were at Siena, it
was only placed at Verona because Shakespeare loves the place.
Shakespeare took the source for the plot of the story
from The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet by an English poet
Arthur Brooke. The play was published by a quarto's. William
Davenant was in charge of the earliest documented performance of
Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, Thomas Otway created a
version of the play entitled The History and Fall of Caius Marius that
is something similar to Romeo and Juliet. While Cibber and Garrick
also created their version of Romeo and Juliet, and they excluded
the role of Rosaline. Time passes by, with the advent of motion
pictures, there are eighteen film versions created up to the 19th
century. Many attempted to translate the plot of the play into the
modern era.
