(iv) Internal crystal clock: It generates clock signals for single pulse selector
divider chain-2. through
(v) Divider chain-2 : It feeds clock pulses to single pulse
selector or gate circuit
depending upon the requirement.
(vi) Single pulse selector:As the name indicates it selects one digital pulse at a
time.
(vi) Frequency/time period selector : It selects the frequency or time period to be
measured at a time.
(viüi) Gate. It derives the N (number of) digit counter through gate
signal.
(ix) Repetition rate generator. It gives single pulse repeatedly after a particular time
period.
(x) N digit counter and display. It counts the number of pulses obtained through gate
signal and display them.
6.1.8.STROBOscOPE
It is a device which emits periodic flashes of light of very short duration, When the flashes fall
once per revolution of a rotating body which is illuminated by stroboscope, the observer will feel
the body stationary. When the flashing rateis slightly less, the observer feels the body
slowly in the forward direction and vice-versa. rotating
The main advantage of stroboscope is that it can be used to determine the speed of
inaccessible
rotating part without consuming any power from it.
Stroboscopes are generally calibrated to read the speed directly in rpm. The frequency of the
flashes is adjusted till the body appears stationary and the speed is read directly from the
employed for adjusting the frequency. Speeds from a few hundred to many thousands of rpm candialbe
measured with stroboscope.
6.1.9. VIBRATING REEDS :

Vibrating reeds are thin steel strips of approximate dimensions of 4 mm width and

thickness used in vibrating reed frequency meter, where the use is made of
resonance. Bottom portion of reeds is fixed and upper portion is kept phenomenon of mechanical
free to vibrate. A bent is
provided to the upper portion of the reeds so that these serve as flags and are

6.1.10. TACHOMETERS:
Tachometers are used to measure the speed of rotating shafts. The yarious types of tachometers
are:
