LESSON 2: IMPRESSIONISM ART

What is Impressionism?

- An art movement
described as an art style that tried
to capture an impression of what
the eyes sees at a given moment
and the effect of sunlight on the
subject.

Impressionists were concerned with representing the everyday experience in an


object and realistic manner. They tried to capture the immediate impressions of an objects,
varying styles, and experimenting on the effects of light.

Impressionist painting
- characterized by short brisk strokes of bright colors
- The paint is often applied impasto.

IMPASTO is an Italian word used to describe the thickness and texture that can be
achieved with acrylic or oil paint.

What are the characteristics of Impressionism Art?

ACTIVITY 2: An Impressionist Painting of Yours


Make an Impressionist’s work by painting in a white paper. Using white paper helps the
light shine through your picture. Take your acrylic colors and painting materials en plein air
means outside on a sunny day and find a nice spot at home to paint. You may paint your garden
or the lake beside your house.
