How to use DO YOU MIND? WOULD YOU MIND?

1. Ask if it’s OK for you to do something.


Do you mind if I sit here ? ( Burada oturmamın sakıncası var mı ? )

2. Ask someone to do something for you?


Do you mind checking this for me ? (Bunu benim için kontrol eder misin?)

3. Would you mind + if + subject + V2: ‘’Rica’’

Would you mind+ Ving


e.g Would you mind closing the door? (kapıyı kapatır mısın?)

Would you mind+ if+subject+V2


e.g Would you mind if I smoked here? (Sigara içmemin bir sakıncası var mı?)

+ Do you mind closing the door?


– No, I don’t mind. (Closing the door isn’t a problem for me, so I wil close the door)
– Yes, I mind. (Closing the door is a problem for me, so I wil NOT CLOSE it)

+ Would you mind paying the bills?


– No, I wouldn’t mind. (I will pay the bills)
– Yes, I would mind. (I will NOT PAY them)

Is it okay if + subject + be verb...?

We can use a "be verb" as well. The "be verb" is followed by a noun, adjective, or
prepositional phrase.

In this sentence, the word "it" does not have a real meaning. It is a placeholder.
