case the Putty utility is used for the SSH connection to the ONTAP appliance. Once connected and
authenticated a simple Disk show will reveal the main information about the disk details including
the Node owners in the cluster. Now considering this is a simulator and all disks effectively are
emulated within the same VMware vmdk data file, really makes no difference in having additional
disks for redundancy. Certainly it is interesting to explore these areas as well for better
configurations. For example in this case the remaining disks could be used to create other aggregates
for other purposes. For example separate storage tiers or even dedicated to core functions like
primary storage for virtual infrastructure or even NAS shares for several departments. October 2015

how i can see them i mean hw to check the unassigned disks and assign them to filers say i have
added 12 SAS @ 300GB New disks to my disk shelf DS4243 now how to proceed further as i have
one raidgroup ( rg0) which is of total 24 (2 parity, 1 Hotspare ) in the aggregate ( aggr0 ) please
advise me hw to proceed further i want to assign 6 disks to each controller out of 12 , hope
maximum Raidgroup size for SAS disks is 28.( 2 Parity . 1 Hotspare ). Please help me out. "create a
single aggregate using all the disks" - technically yes. you'll have to have separate RAID Groups.
I don't think you'd even need to move things. just add the new disks as a new raidgroup. 1.22.38

them as well as add disks to the current aggregates to increase overall speed. I know I can add the
new disks to their current aggregates, but because of the size difference that is generally not
recommended and overtime it may slow things down. Just a thought, if ADP is in play, you could
move all the data partitions to node 1 and just move the new shelf to node 2 and leave the root
partitions alone. I don't think ADP needs to be blown away as it's actually useful in this kind of
scenario. December 2018 (7) Thanks for the answer. Please see the screen shot of netappctr2 which
