Multiple Nozzle Spray (MNS)

Desuperheater
The most common used simple insertion type of
desuperheater for desuperheating in VHP/HP/MP/LP
steam applications.

applications, the superheated steam has to be
desuperheated to a lower temperature or even to
a saturated condition. This can be achieved by a
desuperheater: a device with the aim to reduce the
temperature of the incoming steam to a controlled
temperature by direct injection of water.

Since the late 1950s, Kiekens-DSH has designed,

fabricated, installed and commissioned thousands of
desuperheaters worldwide.

The key feature of the MNS desuperheater is that

the cooling water flow is regulated by the integrated
water control valve (TCV), allowing its use in less
demanding desuperheater applications. It regulates
the steam temperature by injecting cooling water
through a variable number of spray nozzles achieved
by use of the internal piston, regulating the amount
of open spray nozzles. This enables the water
pressure to remain constant, independently of the
number of spray nozzles in operation. As a result a
good and near uniform spray quality over the entire
water flow range occurs. The MNS desuperheater
can be selected for steam side and water side
turndown of approx. 45:1 against a water injection
percentage up to 20%.

and ideally mixes with pushing water through the nozzle
head into the steam line to a desuperheated steam flow
exiting on the right.
