FACTORS INFLUENCING STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN THEIR


ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

INTRODUCTION

Education is all about being excited about something. A student motivation and

student achievement considerably on the basis of establishing effective and efficient

learning-teaching process in education systems. The studies influence and

participation, family history, peer pressure, expectations, effort, anxiety, self-

regulation and determination of goals, learning strategies, teaching style and school

environment it is stated that the school environment optimize motivation and learning

when it is accessible, positive, personalized and empowering. Motivation is a critical

component of learning and plays a very important role in helping students and defined

as a situation that gives energy to behavior, Motivation involves a set of beliefs,

perceptions, values, information and actions that are totally related to each other.

Motivation can lead to many behaviors and it is important to understand the

importance of motivation in an educational. Also, motivation in education can have a

dramatic impact on students’ performance and results. Therefore, parents and teachers

who are willing to help their students do better in school should be aware of the

factors that affect student motivation. Motivation is the state that can maintain

students’ attention and behavior as well as provides with more energy to needed to

lead tasks to completion. Thus, it can help sustain activities over a period of time. In

education, motivation can have a variety of effects on students’ behavior, preferences,

and results. Students are more likely to retain their motivation in education if

educators use different teaching methods. That creates diversity and prevents students

from getting bored. Giving room for certain choices such as which partner they’d like

to work with can be beneficial too. If a student has a negative emotion such as fear or

disliking towards their teacher, that can negatively affect their attitude toward the

subject as a whole. If a teacher shows a preference towards certain students or uses

derogatory and humiliating language, that can lower their motivation in education.

We must accept and consider that there are really factors, several factors that could

influence a student motivation especially in the midst of pandemic. That it is really

existing and gladly there’s plenty of tips, tricks or tools out there that a student and a

teacher can do, provide and use during this new normal, or the distance learning such

as letting the students know exactly what is needed to do, motivate with rewards and

praise because we already know that praise and reward are better motivators than

punishment, motivate meaning feedback, work with parents to motivate students at

home, staying connected as a class to motivate each other, build a sense of community

in your online learning environment and many more. According to Vito Silva the

factors inluencing students motivation in their academic performance are: Family

Isuues and Instability - same as the lack of security in the classroom, the lack of

security at home can negatively impact motivation and academic performance. Peer

Relationship - as student the influence peers have upon them increases as well. There

fore, problems and conflicts with peers can make students feel less secure about their

academic performance. Negative Emotion - If students has a fear or disliking towards

their teacher, that can negatively affect their attitude toward this subject as a whole. If

a teacher shows a preference towards certain students or uses derogatory and

humiliating language, that can lower their motivation in academic performance.

in their academic performance to encourage them to continue doing a good thing.

performance. Researchers will conduct the study in EXACT Colleges of Asia. The

respondents of the study will discover the possible effect of motivation. The basis of
