RANDANG KOLAKU

Introduction

Background Information

Indonesia is a multiracial, multi ethnic and multicultural country in the

world. It is rich in diversity and it has a variety of islands, customs, cultures, and

foods. Moreover, each region and island in Indonesia has its own distinct customs,

cultures, and foods. One of the places that has been known as the most delicious

food in the world is in Indonesia, especially in West Sumatra.

West Sumatra, apart from being known as an education area, is also famous

for its special food. Everyone may not know this typical food of West Sumatra is

the most delicious food in the world according to a CNN International survey

2021. This food has become a favorite food for all people, both young and old

because the tastes are a little bit spicy, delicious, and it has a strong and distinctive

taste. The food is Rendang or in West Sumatra its pronounce as Randang which

has a rich taste of Indonesian spices and it is popular among many people. One of

the ways to promote Randang to wide range of customers is through UMKM or

Micro Small Medium Enterprise.

Randang KoLaku is a one of UMKM in Padang that needs to be promoted

because they do not have media promotion, particularly in Bilingual (English-

Indonesian) media to promote their product widely. Meanwhile, the customer of

Randang KoLaku is not only from Indonesia but also from abroad such as United

State of America and London. Therefore, this bilingual promotional media in form

of Electronic Booklet (E-Booklet) can help Randang KoLaku to promote their

product more widely and it can reach the customer faster because it can be

accessed on any social media.

The Problem and Its Significant

Randang is a cooking technique named marandang, which means to

prepare and stir food for a long time until it gets dry. It is not only made from beef

but also nowadays it is made from beef lungs as a new innovation to promote this

special food.

Randang KoLaku has reach international market, however, they do not

have any company profile yet. Therefore, it is important to promote the products

by making a bilingual e-booklet company profile. It will make Randang KoLaku

known by many people easily. Besides that, Randang KoLaku will held the

meeting with American client so, the owner of Randang KoLaku’s ask the author

to make a booklet to presentation about Randang KoLaku. The target of this

project is all people both local and international tourists who come to West

Sumatra. Moreover, this project can be utilized by people who are interested in

knowing about Randang.

The Technical Goals

There are some purposes in making this final project, they are for English

Department student, for English Department of Politeknik Negeri Padang, for

Randang KoLaku management, and the reader.

3
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

The first purpose is to complete the requirements to get Diploma Degree

(DIII) from English Department of Politeknik Negeri Padang. By doing this final

project, the knowledge gained during studying in college, especially in Writing,

can be applied. The second purpose is for English Department of Politeknik

Negeri Padang, this final project can build a positive relationship between the

English Department and Rendang Kolaku management. Moreover, the English

Department can be widely known and give more contribution to society through

the product that is produced by its students.

The third purpose is to Randang KoLaku management. Because it does not

have a promotional media yet in form of bilingual e-booklet, it is hoped that this

Final Project product can be used as a promotional media. Therefore, this business

can be more developed and compete in the national market in order to reach more

comprehensive sales outside the country.

Summary

This section discusses the previous work and the theories about making a

bilingual e-booklet. The title of this project is Making a Bilingual E-booklet

Company Profile of Randang KoLaku. Some of the references used in working on

this project are previous project theories of writing and making booklet written by

previous students of English Department of Politeknik Negeri Padang.

Previous Work

This section explains some previous works that were used as references in

making this final project. It will be compared one to other in order to get the

appropriate ways to make an e-brochure. There are two previous work that were

used. The first project is from Azmir (2022) entitled “Designing a Digital Booklet

of Jamila Humaila’s Company Profile in Bilingual Version”. In her project, she

designed a digital booklet in order to inform people about the digital booklet and

Jamila Humaila. In addition, she (2022) used Canva application to combine all the

footage into a designing digital booklet. The final result of designing digital

booklet was planned to be published on Jamila Humaila’s official website and

shared on official media such as Instagram.

Second project was conducted by Hamid (2022) entitled “Making Booklet

of Tourism Destination of 5 Lakes in Solok”. In his project, he made a booklet in

order to inform people about tourism destination of 5 lakes which located in

Solok, by two processes which is writing and designing. Hamid (2022) used the

theory from Lengkey (2014) and Sitepu (2004) to complete the booklet. The

booklet which usually is less than 20 pages and does not have hard-cover. This

booklet is easy to be carried anywhere and the detail information of the 5 lakes in

Solok are provided in the booklet.

To sum up, all those projects above have similarities and differences.

Based on these two project the differences between every previous work that were

chosen has different object as their final project. Also, the previous project and

this final project have the similarities in made booklet and used application to

editing namely Canva.

Theoretical Background

There were some aspects and theories from the experts applied in making

this final project, namely the definition of e-booklet, the types of booklets and the

definition of creative writing.

Definition of E-Booklet.

According to Rukmana (2018: 2-4), booklets are small (A5) and thin books

consisting of 48 flip pages, it contains writing and pictures. The structure of the

contents of a booklet resembles that of a book (introduction, contents and

closing), only the way of presenting the contents is much shorter than that of a

book.

Furthermore, e-booklet is a learning media that can be used in the learning

process both in learning with the help of a teacher or independently. The physical

characteristics of the e-booklet are that it has a smaller size (Setiawan & Hendra,

2015). E-booklets are small electronic-based books that function to convey

6
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

messages or information about learning materials (Nahria, 2019). E-booklet is one

of the media that presents material in summary form and has interesting pictures,

so it can be used as a learning resource so that students better understand learning

material (Fauziyah, 2017).

Moreover, according to Darmoko (2012), booklet is a small book that has at

least five pages but no more than forty-eight pages excluding the cover. It contains

important information, in which the contents must be clear, firm, easy to

understand and it will be more interesting if the booklet is accompanied by

pictures. Therefore, this booklet can be a medium for learning activities in class

and it can increase the effectiveness of student learning.

Types of Booklets

News Letter. First, newsletter may be a booklet which usually in a

corporation as a newsletter where the customer gets to grasp about the corporate,

what is happening in it and any new amendments or policies. It is an excellent

way to instill trust withing the customers and forms a stronger bond, typically by a

business, institution, or other organization or subject.

Recipe Booklet. Second is recipe booklet. It is a booklet which contain

recipes briefly yet descriptive version. The contents include information about

food with ingredients and how to form the food. These are typically designed by

chefs, companies selling cookery items or ingredients.

Instruction Manual. Third is instruction manual. It is also referred to

owner’s manual that contains important information a few products like how to
7
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

assemble it, dismantle it, installation process, safety instructions, warranties and

guaranties. Generally, to create a brochure booklet, it requires a minimum of one

or more skills or talents to be written as a booklet.

Portfolios. Fourth may be a portfolio that is used by companies as creative

work like photography. Interior designing or those that make tailored products

need a portfolio booklet to showcase their art and proficiency to probable clients.

The clients get a good idea about the sort and elegance of work the corporate is

into.

Brochure booklet. The last one of the types of booklets is brochure

booklet. It contains descriptions, information, and pictures a few products. It aims

to market a product within the kind of booklet brochure. Making a booklet

brochure is that the same as making a brochure, but the booklet brochure explains

more specifically.

The Definition of Writing

Peha (2010:58) states that writing is the communication of content for a

purpose to an audience. Therefore, writing can be said as a process of giving and

putting idea or message into words. In short, the successfulness in writing is

depend on how much the readers can understand what the writer’s mean. So, to be

a good writer is not easy because a writer must pay attention to principal purpose

or writing and also must consider the aspects of writing in his writing.

Based on caroline T. Linse that writing is a combination of process and

product. The process refers to the act of gathering ideas and working that is
8
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

presented in a manner which is polished and comprehensible to a readers.

Morever, Gordon Taylor also stated that most people define writing is extremely

difficult task if they are trying to grapple in their language with new ideas and

new ways, so it becomes an agonizing experience for them with deosn’t necessary

get easier with the passages of the time and accumulation of experience.

The Genres of Writing

In English writing has literary genre that becomes second language and be

international language in the world. According to Brown (2004:219) states that the

classification of writing to include most common genres that a second language

writer might produce, within and beyond the requirements of a curriculum. There

are genres of writing language need to acquire as follows:

Academic writing. Academic writing is the activity of writing in

systematically writing especially for student to finish their final graduation. There

are examples in academic writing; paper and general subject report, Essay,

compositions academically focused journal Short-answer test responses technical

reports (lab reposts) Theses, dissertation

Job-related writing. It has purpose to make frequent use of visual, helping

reader better understand a concept in job relate his writing. There are example

media which use in job related writing; Message (phone messages) Letters/emails

Memos (interoffice) Reports (job evaluations, project reports) Schedules, labels,

signs Manuals
9

RANDANG KOLAKU

Personal writing. This part is individual or personal writing with his

writing as Letters, emails, greetings cards, invitations Messages, notes Calendar

entries, shopping lists, reminders financial documents (checks, tax forms, loan

applications) Forms, questionnaires, medical reports, immigration documents

Diaries, personal journals Fictions (short stories, poetry). From explanation above,

the researcher used academic writing genre of genres writing for the research in

English writing.

The Process of Writing

According to Supiani (2017), there are several stages in writing: idea

generation, drafting, reading, revising, editing and evaluation.

Idea Generation. The first step is obtaining the ideas of the writers through

encouraging and brainstorming so that they are able to come up with thoughts

about the subject. In order to stimulate idea, writers can answer the yes- no

question and WH question related to the topic discussed.

Drafting. After gathering ideas, they should be written down into a rough

draft. The writers should not fear making errors in linguistic forms, diction,

spelling or, punctuation, so the thoughts can flow easily. In drafting, the main idea

should be carried out in the writer’s mind to give a clear direction in writing.

Furthermore, this process also would explore the ideas more deeply and be

affected the elaboration paragraph.

10
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

Reading. In this stage, the rough draft must be read repeatedly for obtaining

new ideas about a certain topic. Therefore, the activity in this step provides notes

and corrections to produce a good paragraph.

Revising. The next step is revising which can be defined as re-seeing works

from a new perspective. It is the process of changing the draft based on the

correction after the reading process. The main focus of this stage is the idea,

organization, word choice, and sentence fluency.

Editing. This step is taken when the writer should consider the

improvement that might be made. There are some criteria that have to check in

editing, such as the meaning, order, spelling and grammar, punctuation, and style.

The editing process is the last step to correct inappropriate words, wrong

sentences, incorrect punctuation, and other mistakes to produce a better writing

version.

Evaluation. Evaluation is the final step in the writing process. It can be

obtained by the writers themselves or by the proofreader. The best works that have

been written before will be corrected based on the main criteria of writing and

other perspectives related to the subject discussed. Finally, the writer should revise

the project based on the project given.

The Creative Writing

Pranoto (2004) pointed out that the writing process which demands the

writers to be creatives in terms of ideas and the content in their sentences is called

creative writing. It is creative because the author has to make it in such a way as
11
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

to combine real-world experiences with elements of art, especially literature. He

also explained that creative writing can be called a composing lesson, which

means creating an imaginary world or a world that is different from the real world.

Meanwhile, Alwi (2018) said that creative writing is a way of writing that uses the

author’s creative ideas to make the reader dream and even stimulate the

imagination. With the existence of creative writing that is owned, it will be able to

create creative writing so that the readers can develop and understand the writing.

A creative writer is an inspiration that can be born in a certain response so that it

can bring up new ideas or ideas in writing, but in an existing context.

The Definition of Translation

There are many definitions of translation that explained by many experts.

Pinchuck (cited in Nurrohmah,2014) translation is a process to find the equivalent

between source text and target text. Meanwhile Nida and Taber (cited in El-

Shafey,2012) see translation as a process of reproducing in the receptor language

to the closest natural equivalent of the source text message, first in terms of

meaning and secondly in terms of style.

According to Newmark (1981, p. 7), translation is a craft consisting in the

attempt to replace a written message and/or statement in one language by the same

message and/or statement in another language. Each exercise involves some kind

of loss of meaning, due to a number of factors. Newmark (1988, p. 5) adds that

translation is "rendering the meaning of a text into another language in the way

that the author intended the text".

12
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

The Process of Translation

Nida and Taber explained simple and generally about the process of

translation. Nida and Taber (1974: 33) introduce three stages in the process of

translation. This process begins by analyzing SL into grammatical and semantic

structure of the TL, transferring the meaning and at last by reconstructing the

grammatical and semantic structure into the appropriate TL forms in order to

create an equivalent TT.

Nida’s model of translation (Bassnett. 2005:25)

From Nida and Taber explanation it can be concluded that translation has

process, a translator must have knowledge about the elements of two languages.

Such as, grammatical and semantic structure, process of translation is done for

finding the equivalence meaning from source language (SL) to target language

(TL).

Larson (1984: 476-90) in his book Meaning-Based Translation A Guide to

Cross-Language Equivalence divides the process of translation into eight different

steps, they are:

13
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

Preparation. There are two kinds of preparation. First, there is the

preparation which the translator should have before beginning the translation task,

and secondly, there is the preparation which he undertakes as he begins work on a

specific translation project. The first kind of preparation should have included

training in writing, in linguistics and in translation principles. There may be

cultural barriers which immediately strike him as potential problems. He will

study more in detail or deeply on these. As he researches, he should make notes

for later use he should. When he feels acquainted with the text, he is ready to

begin the analysis.

Analysis. As the translator reads through the text, he should note down any

lexical items which seem to be the key words. These will be words which are

crucial to an understanding of the text. One of the first steps in the analysis should

be a careful study of these key words, in order to find a good lexical equivalent in

the receptor language. Often it will be necessary to consult dictionaries and

encyclopedias for more information. The components of meaning which are

crucial and need to be transferred should be identified.

How detailed the analysis will be vary with the difficulty of the text. The

more difficult the text, the more need there will be for a careful re-writing into

semantic structure before any transfer begins. The translator should not become

burdened by making extensive semantic displays. It is a tool to help in his

analysis. Some find it most helpful to simply re-write the text in a near semantic

presentation.
14
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

Transfer. Transfer is a process of going from the semantic structure

analysis to the initial draft of the translation. The transfer takes place in the mind

of the translator. The semantic analysis will have eliminated most of the skewing

between the deep and surface structure of the source text. After this is done the

translator is faced with transferring this meaning into the second language, and

introducing the appropriate receptor language skewing.

In carrying out this process, he will find a lexical equivalent for concepts of

the source language and culture. The translator will decide whether or not the

figurative and rhetorical devices of the source language will be transferred or if

some adjustments will need to be made, he will consider what grammatical forms

to use to communicate the correct meaning. Without an adequate study on the

translation principles the transfer process can be very difficult and the result is

unsatisfied.

Initial draft. The translator begins making his initial draft after moving

back and forth from the source to the receptor text. He may need to go back for

more background reading or check again the dictionary. In this process, the

translator should work at paragraph level. He must be sure of what the paragraph

communicates, and then he composes the draft naturally, without looking at the

SL or even the semantic rewrite. He should just let it flow naturally and express

the meaning clearly.

15
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

However, there are number of things which the translator should keep in

mind as he does the initial draft. He should know who will use the translation, and

their level of education. He should know about the author’s purpose, the topic of

the paragraph, and semantic structure analysis. If the number things are

combinated, the initial draft will be accurate and natural.

Reworking the initial draft. The reworking of an initial draft should not be

undertaken until a larger section is completed. It is best if the draft has been left

untouched for a week or two. In this way the translator comes with a fresh look at

it and is able to be more objective in his evaluation and reworking of it. The

reworking of the initial draft includes checking for naturalness and for accuracy.

The first thing that the translator will do is to read through the manuscript of

this larger unit which he is checking. In doing this, first, the translator should

looks for: wrong grammatical forms or obscure constructions, places that seem

too wordy, wrong order, awkward phrasing, places where the connections do not

seem right and it does not flow easily, collocation clashes, questionable meaning,

and Style

The second, the translator needs to check for accuracy of meaning. He can

only do this by a careful comparison with the source text and the semantic

analysis. Some trouble he may find are: something omitted, something added, a

different meaning, or a zero meaning, that is, the form used just doesn’t

communicate any meaning at all. When checking for meaning, he will look not
16
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

only at the meaning of the words, but also of the sentences and especially the

relations between the sentences and the paragraphs and larger units.

The third, the translator need to check whether or not the theme comes

through clearly. He should have a look at the draft for a while and evaluate this.

This may be one of the things that will be more easily evaluated. After the

translator himself has done the drafting, he will have it tested.

Testing the translation. This step is needed to know whether the

translation product had done by the translator perfectly transferred or not. There

are three main reasons in doing testing translation. They are accurate, clear and

natural.

In order to make the translation as accurate, clear and natural as possible,

the translation must involve at least four persons. They are translator, consultant,

tester, and reviewer. The translator will do self-checks by making a

comprehension testing. He asks people to read the translation whether they

understand or not. He also does the naturalness checking by comparing his

translation with the TT. The consultant helps the translation in accuracies and

correcting use of translation principles. He can train the translator in how to do

other kinds of testing. He also encourages the translator throughout the project. A

consultant can often help with difficult exegetical questions. The tester tests the

translation with people whether the ST familiar or not. The reviewer reads

through the translation and makes comments concerning clarity and naturalness.
17
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

Polishing. After doing all those steps above, the translator needs to polish

the translation he had done. He needs to know whether he makes an adequate

translation or not.

Preparing the Manuscript for the Publisher. In this last step, the

translator checks the translation by having it tested over and over again until he is

sure that there is no missing information from the ST.

Procedures

This chapter discusses the process and methods used in making the

Bilingual e-booklet entitled “Making a Bilingual E-Booklet Company Profile of

Randang KoLaku”. There were five different processes taken in order to create

this e-booklet, namely formulating idea, background research and investigation,

writing the script, designing the e-booklet and publishing.

Formulating the Idea

Before creating a digital booklet, the idea of what to be used as the theme

of booklet should be formulated considering the topic discussed. In order to make

a e-booklet, the purpose and target audience of the e-booklet needs to determine

by the author.

The process of this interview was important to get actual information for

designing a bilingual e-booklet. Before doing the interview, the interviewer has

created the list of questions in order to make the interview session become more

structured and manage time. The interview obtained by face-to-face interview at

the informant house.

Writing the Script

In making this e-booklet, there are several processes in writing the script.

The following are the stages of the writing process that have been carried out:

Planning

In this stage, the process are choosing a topic, language choice and making

a concept. When choosing a topic, it should connect to the concept of the e-

booklet. In this e-booklet, the student explains and provide information about

Randang KoLaku. The right languages to make the message deliver to the

audiences must know by the student. The concept helps to decide how the

drafts, each sentence was carefully and made sure that was well-written and

carries out its purpose. In the editing the author did the proofreading to make this

script can easy read and understand by the readers.

an editing process by checking all the material repeatedly, the final result of the

script was obtained and ready to applied to design of e-booklet.

Designing the E-Booklet

At this stage the student began to design the created booklet products. In

the designing process, the student added images related to the information

provided in the booklet. In the design process carried out by the student, it based

on 5 basic elements in graphic design from the theory from Sitepu (2004): line,

shape, space, texture and color.

Publishing

According to Mandal (2021), publishing consists of two processes that

cannot be separated, namely downloading and publishing. Before publishing the

e-booklet, the final design needs to be downloaded into digital forms such as PDF,

PNG, JPG, HTML5 (offline web), and other file types. After downloading, the

project was required to be published through an online website or shared on social

media like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.

Discussion of Result

At this stage, the application of the theory in making an e-booklet of

“Company Profile of Randang KoLaku was explained. The purpose of this

chapter is to compare and evaluate the expert theories applied and the methods

used in this E-booklet. The first theory applied was by Supiani (2017) related to

formulating the idea. Second was the theory from Friedmann, (2010) about

background research and investigation.

Formulating Idea

The theory of idea generation from Supiani (2017) was applied in

formulating idea. The purpose and the target audience of the electronic booklet

were decided at this stage. In accordance with the requirement of the final project

from English Department, the students should create one of the products selected

among the translating, broadcasting and writing brochure and booklet. The student

who was completing the Project Based Learning (PBL) were allowed to make the

final project about the PBL. The electronic booklet was chosen based on the

request of the company’s owner because he considered that the electronic booklet

was the significant media in promoting his company’s brand widely.

Background Research and Investigation

Background research and investigation steps were aimed to gather

information in creating an Electronic Booklet (e-booklet) using Friedmann

(2010)’s theory as a reference. There were two stages in this process namely

location research and interviewing.

32
MAKING A BILINGUAL E-BOOKLET COMPANY PROFILE OF
RANDANG KOLAKU

Location Researched

Location research in this project was very important to get the picture

that would used in the Canva design. This part was done by visiting the Randang

KoLaku’s owner during the Project Base Learning (PBL). Not only on PBL, it

was also on June, 14th 2023 visited the KoLaku’s home production to take some

new photo. This visit was based on the appointment with Mr. Arman and Mrs.

Ilmawati as the owner of Randang KoLaku. The good spot and lighting were

selected to get an interesting photo for the design of E-booklet. To obtaining high-

quality images, the Canon EOS M200 was used in this part.

Interviewing

To complete the location research, interviewing was also considered to

collect some information about the company. The interviewees were Mr. Arman

and Mrs. Ilmawati, the owner of Randang KoLaku, who was really support this

project. The discussions about the time to interview was discussed on Whatsapp.

The interview was done by face-to-face discussions at Randang KoLaku’s which

also became the owner’s home. The first interview was conducted when seeking

information about Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) for Project Based

Writing the Scripts

The stages involved in writing the script were planning, drafting, editing

and final draft.

Planning

This process determined the purpose of the writing, the target audience,

and the content structure. The purpose of this project was increasing brand

awareness and represent the company in the form of an electronic booklet. To

accomplish those objectives, it was decided that the electronic booklet’s content

would be the company profile. It contained information about the company’s

activity, the establishment, story, product, and contact information. Then, the

target audience was everyone range up to 17 years old. Moreover, the prospective

customer from both local and international was also addressed.

Drafting

After planning the project, the next step was drafted. It was creating an

outline by organizing thoughts and ideas. The outline was written in text and

included all the details of the company. The project was created in two languages

but the process of translation did by directly because the script did not too long to

need translation process.

The first draft

Editing and Revising

After producing the drafts, the content must be polished. At this process,

the writing was still considered a draft. The content was modified by adding,

removing and rearranging the information needed. The sections that required to be

edited were grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and tone. The editing and revising

had been conducted about three times, after that it might proceed to the final as

displayed on the electronic booklet.

Designing the Electronic Booklet (E-booklet)

Based on the theory of Sitepu (2004), there were 5 basic elements in

graphic design, namely line, shape, space, texture and colour. Based on the theory

of Mandal (2021), there were several stages in designing the digital booklet:

choosing the template, adding the multimedia, and branding consistency. This e-

booklet used graphic design tool namely Canva Application. Canva was chosed

because it was free and has many tools for creating visual content.
35

elements such as fonts, colors, images and icon. The font used for the heading and

body was different in their types and size. The heading used “kollektif” and “Alfa

Slab One” type with size 45-95. Meanwhile, the body used “canva sans” with the

size 15-25. It is different because it adapted to each page design.

Conclusion

Booklet is one of the best ways as a media for promoting places, products

and institutions to the society easily. This final project focuses on designing an

Electronic Booklet (e-booklet) rather than the printed booklet so that it can be

disseminated easily because nowadays the internet is very accessible. In addition,

since the target market of the chosen industry; Randang KoLaku is domestic and

overseas customers, thus the e-booklet is written in bilingual versions: Indonesia

and English.

The process of making this booklet is not easy because it requires a lot of

time and preparation. Many things must be considered before deciding what to do,

what to write, what to use, how to use and so on. Before making a Bilingual E-

booklet, the students must collect the materials for their booklet products such as

information and drawings. Moreover, to get the photo of the products and collect

the information for the e-booklet, the students should visit the management

production home directly.

The process of designing this bilingual e-booklet is really challenging.

This is because to make this project it requires brilliant ideas and creativity in

designing, the skills in creative writing in English and also the skills in using the

graphic design application; Canva app. The difficulty of this project is how to

make the designs, ideas and concepts become an interesting booklet. In addition,

to make it perfect, this project also need some opinions and suggestion from many

people such as the owner, the final project supervisors, the reader, and etc. So, this

e-booklet easy to read for the target reader.

Recommendations

After completing the process of designing the bilingual e-booklet, there

are some recommendations can be made. The first recommendation is for English

Department students of Politeknik Negeri Padang who choose making booklet as

their final project. The second is for the industry, in this case is Randang KoLaku,

and the third is for the English Department.

First, for student of English Department, it is suggested that before

deciding on the field of creative writing as a final project, it is better think

carefully about it first so, it do not mind later in doing the final project. This can

be done by looking at previous student final assignment discussions with related

lectures. In addition, student interested in designing must also be able to operate

Canva App and the other application for editing.

Then, for the Randang KoLaku management, they should to set up

particular division that is responsible for designing the content of the website not

only in Indonesian but also in English. By having this division, Randang KoLaku

can increase their selling products to the overseas, where indirectly it can increase

their profit as well.

The last one is in preparing students who are competent in creative

writing, the English Department must provide students with deeper learning

materials so that learning is divided into more specific areas so that students are

not confused. It also provides a focus for each study so that students are ready to

face the world of work.
