A BOY’S LETTER TO HIS DAD.

I’ve thought of you a lot, dear Dad, She went to work the other day
Since you have gone away ; But I can’t tell you where ;
I think of you and miss you Because she said you’d feel so bad
Each hour of the day, If you knew she was there.

For you were such a pal to me, She does not earn much money,
And loved me, Oh, so true ; And the work is hard to do ;
Not only that, but you were But we will have to do our best
Just as good as Mother, too ; Without the help from you.

We didn’t think we’d lose you, I wish that I could help her
You were so big and strong ; But I’m so small you see ;
But when that awful sickness came, I wonder why God took my Dad,
You did not linger long. Instead of taking me.

They say you’re never coming back, I guess I won’t go far in school
It makes me feel so blue, As you wanted me to do ;
I thought I’d sit right down For Mother says it costs so much
And write these lines to you. That she cannot see me through.

I hate to tell you all this, Our neighbours say it is all, you fault
For it may make you sad ; For you did not buy the plan
For things are so much different That you were urged so hard to take,
Since I lost my precious dad By the Life Insurance Man.

But I said I’d write and tell you, I’ll bet if you could just come back
So I guess I’d better start ; And see us for a day,
And hope you’ll forgive me, You’d buy some life insurance
Even though it breaks your heart. And you’d buy it right away.

You know the nice big house we had I know you meant to buy it,
My Mother, you and me used to live?; For I heard you tell the man ;
Well, we do not live there anymore, That you “would think it over”
For we have moved you see. And some day take the plan.

The landlord, he was awful, I guess I’ve told you all,

And he would not let us stay ; That I had better tell ;
For when the rent day came around, And hope that you’ll forgive me
My Mother could not pay. If it doesn’t sound so well.

I heard her tell him how she missed Just one more thing I’ll tell
Your paycheck every week ; When I get to be a man
And she was sad and cried so hard I intend to do some business
That she could hardly speak. With the Life Insurance Man.
