We have issued the technical information (HHI-TI-0380) for this topic. In this regards, we would like
to give more information for application of the FW(Fresh Water) 3way temperature control valve.
To achieve an optimal engine performance with regard to e.g. fuel oil consumption, cylinder condition,
EGR blower power consumption etc. it is important to ensure the lowest possible cooling water inlet
temperature at the scavenge air cooler and EGR cooler.
We therefore recommend / require that a 10°C set-point is applied for the central cooler FW 3way
temperature control valve: reference is made to below figure 1 and 2.
By applying the 10°C set-point temperature this will ensure that the FW cooling water will always be
as cold as possible, but not too cold for the external aux. systems. This is the reason why 3way
temperature control valve is required as figure 1 and 2.

differential pressure as the central cooler at nominal cent. cool. water pump capacity)

(ref. note 1: See figure 1)
In above figure 1 and 2 examples, we have assumed that the min. temperature required for the
external aux. systems are 10°C. But this has to be determined case by case in a close dialogue
with all the aux. equipment suppliers in question.
However, if the coolant temperature to the engine can be as low as possible regardless impact on
external aux. systems, FW 3way temperature control valve can be omitted as figure 3 and 4. In this
case, it is important that scavenge air coolant inlet temperature should be kept above 4°C.

equipment circulation circuit.
