Conclusion
Preface
Under the NRLM (National Rural Livelihoods Mission) department of the Government of India,
it is mandated that every panchayat (local administrative unit) form a "sangha" to oversee and
coordinate the functioning of active Self-Help Groups (SHGs). In the context of the SAINTHIA
block in Birbhum district, West Bengal, a survey has been conducted to evaluate and compile a
report on the performance and activities of these "Sanghas."
The main objective of the study was to analyse the socio-economic situation of the "Sanghas"
and their respective members. The report delves into various aspects of the activities carried out
by the Sanghas and how they impact the functioning of SHGs operating under their supervision.
1. Formation and Structure of Sanghas: The report examines the process of forming
the Sanghas in each panchayat and their organizational structure. This includes
understanding their roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes concerning
SHGs.
2. Functioning and Coordination: The study analyses how the Sanghas manage and
coordinate the activities of individual SHGs within their jurisdiction. This involves
evaluating their effectiveness in providing support, guidance, and resources to the SHGs
to ensure their smooth operation.
3. Socio-Economic Situation of Sangha Members: The report looks into the
socio-economic backgrounds of the members affiliated with each Sangha. This includes
factors such as income levels, education, occupation, and access to basic services to
understand the impact of SHG activities on their lives.
4. Financial Inclusion and Livelihood Enhancement: The report assesses the
financial inclusion efforts of the Sanghas and their contributions to the livelihood
enhancement of the SHG members. This could involve analyzing credit accessibility,
savings practices, and income-generation activities facilitated by the Sanghas.
5. Social Empowerment and Skill Development: The study evaluates how the
Sanghas promote social empowerment and skill development among SHG members.
This includes assessing training programs, capacity-building initiatives, and women's
empowerment activities.
6. Challenges and Opportunities: The report identifies the challenges faced by the
Sanghas in carrying out their roles effectively. It also highlights potential opportunities
and makes recommendations to strengthen their functioning and overall impact on
SHGs.
7. Impact on Community Development: The analysis explores the overall impact of
Sangha-led initiatives on community development in the Saintia block. This includes
measuring changes in economic indicators, social cohesion, and overall well-being of the
local population.

conclusion
In conclusion, the study conducted on the "Sanghas" operating within the SAINTHIA block of
Birbhum district, West Bengal, under the auspices of the NRLM (National Rural Livelihoods
Mission), has provided a comprehensive understanding of their significant role in empowering
rural communities and driving socio-economic development. The NRLM's mandate to establish
Sanghas at the panchayat level has proven instrumental in fostering collaboration, skill
enhancement, and collective growth among Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and their members.
Through a meticulous analysis of the Sanghas' activities and their impact on SHGs, it is evident
that these community-led institutions serve as pivotal facilitators in promoting financial
inclusion, livelihood diversification, and social empowerment. By offering diverse training
programs and support mechanisms, Sanghas have enabled SHG members to develop crucial
skills, initiate income-generating ventures, and contribute actively to local economic progress.
This, in turn, has bolstered the resilience of households against financial uncertainties and aided
in raising the overall standard of living.
Furthermore, the study has underscored the intersection between Sanghas, SHGs, and
community development. By addressing challenges faced by marginalized members and
ensuring women's participation, Sanghas have fostered an environment of inclusivity and
gender equity. These achievements not only enhance individual agency but also lead to the
broader transformation of the community's social fabric.
While the report sheds light on the commendable efforts of Sanghas and their positive influence,
it also highlights certain challenges that need careful attention. Issues such as resource
constraints, sustainability, and ensuring continuous capacity-building opportunities warrant
strategic interventions to sustain the momentum of progress.
In view of the report's findings, it is recommended that policymakers and stakeholders focus on
strengthening the Sangha ecosystem by facilitating greater collaboration, knowledge exchange,
and resource allocation. A proactive approach to addressing challenges and identifying
opportunities will be pivotal in harnessing the full potential of these grassroots institutions.
In summation, the study's analysis of Sanghas and their relationship with SHGs in the
SAINTHIA block underscores the importance of community-driven development and the
NRLM's vision. The report serves as a roadmap for refining strategies, making informed
decisions, and channeling resources to uplift rural communities, promote sustainable
livelihoods, and foster holistic well-being. As we look ahead, the synergy between Sanghas,
SHGs, and the NRLM's mission remains a powerful catalyst for realizing the vision of a more
equitable, prosperous, and empowered rural India.
