Latin equilvaent of Jusirprudence is ‘Jurisprudentia’ which mwans either “knowledge of law”
or “skill in law”. According to Ulpian jusriprudence is "the knowledge of things divine and human, the science of the just and unjust". Paulus, another roman jurist said "the law is not to be deduced from the rule, but the rule from the law". Alotugh roman jurists gave vague and inadequate deifnations of law, but they put forward an indpent legal science which are free from instistuions of society. In England, jurisprudence is used through early period of common law but with meaning more than study of or skill in law.
