1.Activity: An activity is a kind of goods movement inside the warehouse.

Below are the Standard activities that generally occur in the warehouse

Warehouse process category:

The warehouse process category is used to classify activities. The following are permitted values for
the warehouse process category for activities, we cannot edit or create a new warehouse process
category.

• Putaway
• Stock removal
• Internal stock transfer
• Physical Inventory
• Posting change
• Cross-line stock putaway

We can define the activities as per the business requirement, again it could be just a name change
since only standard warehouse process categories are available.

In EWM, this activity is uniquely assigned to a warehouse process category EWM, this activity is
uniquely assigned to a warehouse process category

Activities

Activity for putaway the process category is 1 putaway as shown in fig.

2.Activity Area:

Activity area is the logical area that is used to separate our warehouse into logical subdivision units.
Warehouse workers operate different kinds of activities in these logical units such as putaway and
picking.

Storage bins are further categorized in this activity area .it includes activities like picking, putaway
and physical inventory. As per the activity, we can assign the same storage bin to multiple activity
areas

Activities Area Includes

➢ Putaway
➢ Picking
➢ Inventory

Process of Activity area

➢ EWM generates warehouse orders for each activity area.

➢ When SAP EWM generates warehouse tasks, it considers the activity area

Scenario: -
In below fig we have Two storage type TS01 & TS02 for this storage Type we have created three
activity areas that are: -
1. storage type 1(TS01) is responsible for only Putaway activity will perform for the activity area
PTY1 (Putaway)
2. storage type 2(TS02) is responsible for only picking activity will perform for the activity area
PICK(Picking)
3. The storage type TS01&TS02 is responsible for to do physical inventory will perform the activity
area PHIN (Physical inventory)
physical inventory is an activity area that we will perform for all the storage type

Activity area : PHIN (Physical inventory)

is assigned to storage type TS01 &TS02

Define activity areas in SAP S/4Hana EWM by using the following configuration steps

IMG Path: SPRO > SAP Reference IMG > SCM Extended Warehouse Management > Extended
Warehouse Management > Master Data > Activity Area > Define Activity Area

Click On New entries on the activity area creation screen,

Update the following details.

• Warehouse No: Update the warehouse number key
• Activity Area: Enter the 4 characters key that defines the activity area in SAP
Define Activity Area
• Description: Update the description text of the activity area.
We have created three activity area as per our scenarios

After updating the required details for the activity area, click on the save button and save the details

Note: - create a storage BIN
SAP Path: IMG >SCM Extended Warehouse Management > Extended Warehouse Management >
Master Data > Storage Bin > Define storage bin structure
Now the storage bin structure or template has been created as per our above fig. with respect
storage type and storage section, storage bin type and now save the bin template

Same thing repeats for Storage type TS02 Template

Generate storage bins

After Creating the BIN Structure, we want Generate storage bins

Warehouse Management > Master Data > Storage Bin > Generate Storage Bins

Select the TPMM 0012 Which we created in above step

Click on Generate bin so that bin will create as per the bin structure

Now according to the Bin structure 12 bin has been created

Same thing repeats for TPMM 0013 TS02 storage bin structure
3. Assign Storage Bins to Activity Areas in SAP S/4Hana EWM
After defining the Activity Areas in Embedded EWM, the next step is the assignment of storage
Bins to Activity Areas in SAP.

If the business wants the activity area based on the storage bins from the same or different storage
type, then assign the storage bins against the activity area.

click on new entries of the Activity Areas assignment screen, update the following details.
• Warehouse No: Enter the Embedded EWM Warehouse key in the given field
warehouse number.
• Activity Area: Update the activity area key

• Storage Type: Assign the storage type to Activity Area
• Aisle Start
• Aisle End
• Stack start
• Stack End
• Level Start
• Level End
enter the following details for activity area PTY1 (Putaway) for storage type TS01

Click On New entries and enter the following details for activity area PICK (Piciking) for storage type TS02

Click On New entries and enter the following details for activity area PHIN (Physical inventory) for
storage type TS01

Click On New entries and enter the following details for activity area PHIN (Physical inventory) for storage
type TS02

After maintaining the required details, click on the Save button and save the details.
Successfully we have assigned storage bins to the activity area in the SAP S/4Hana EWM system.

5. Define Sort Sequence for Activity Area

Storage bin sorting can be carried out based on the activity (picking, putaway. Physical inventory…)
and storage type in the activity area.

Below is the configuration to set up the sort sequence method for the activity area.

6.Define Storage bin sorting T code: /SCWM/SBST
Perform the bin sorting that creates the internal sequences the system uses in warehouse order
creation and sequencing tasks within the warehouse order

➢ Storage bin sorting will be maintained with reference to Activity Area and Activity.
➢ We have to run a Bin Sorting report /SCWM/SBST- sort storage bins
➢ For Storage type TS01 & TS02

Activity:

• PTWY - Putaway
• PICK - Stock Removal
• INVE – Physical inventory

Activity Area:

• PTY1 - Putaway
• PICK- Picking
• PHIN- Physical inventory

1.Sort Storage bin report will sort according to Identifiers (Aisle, Stack, level) given.

1.Choose Execute.

2. On the Simulation of Bin Sorting screen, choose Create Bin Sorting (F8).
Review the Bin sorting for PTWY activity, if its ok then click on execute so that its creates the sort
sequence

3. The system issues a success message.

1.Choose Execute.

2. On the Simulation of Bin Sorting screen, choose Create Bin Sorting (F8).
Review the Bin sorting for PTWY activity, if its ok then click on execute so that its creates the sort
sequence

3. The system issues a success message.

8. check the sorted storage bin in the SE16N table, go to /SCWM/LAGPS
