Real-Time Muscle Fatigue Predictions: Empowering Safety and Health in

Heavy Load Handling Tasks through LSTM Methodology

General Goal:

The aim is to develop an application that utilizes an LSTM model to accurately predict real-time static muscle
fatigue during activities. This application will be integrated into a digital platform specifically crafted to evaluate
the safety and health of workers in construction industry.

Brief Description

The deltoid and trapezius muscles play a critical role in facilitating smooth and controlled movement during
overhead tasks. They work in coordination with other muscles, such as the rotator cuff muscles, to ensure the
stability, strength, and mobility of the shoulder joint while minimizing the risk of injury. Proper muscle
activation and movement mechanics are essential for performing overhead tasks effectively and safely. Hence,
the deployed application offers the remarkable capability of real-time prediction of muscle fatigue specifically
in the deltoid and trapezius muscles during tasks of this nature.

An EMG system like a data source monitors the patterns of muscle activity. Upon meticulous preprocessing of
this data, the resulting amplitude and frequency values are our LSTM model's input, forming the foundation of
our predictive framework. The selected task falls within a series of common construction sector activities
utilized during the renovation of existing buildings, like installing wooden frames on the ceiling.

This application is an integral component of a digital platform constructed using a micro service architecture.
Employing such an architecture ensures parallel computing and efficient streaming processing functionalities
for optimal performance.

Finally, the application undergoes testing in an experimental laboratory study.
