1. Choose any one out of the three activities given.
2. Kindly do the homework in the Activity Notebook.
3. The date of submission is 01 June 2024.
ACTIVITY 1: CASES AND EXTENTS OF LINGUISTIC CHAUVINISM
The activity should include a writeup on:
• Importance of a language.
• Introduction to Linguistic Chauvinism.
• Relationship between Language and culture.
• Any 3 examples of Historical events of Linguistic Chauvinism with pictures (Times when
freedom of speech and expression were threatened and forceful imposition of any
language)
• How can we keep our languages alive?
ACTIVITY 2: SCIENCE FICTION(TIME-TRAVEL) BOOK- MOVIE ADAPTATION REVIEW
Choose any science fiction (time travel) novel that is adapted into a movie/series.
(Example: The novel ‘The Time Machine’ (1895) by H. G. Wells is adapted into a movie (2002) by
John Logan)
Before you write the review answer the following questions in two or three sentences:
a) Do you prefer reading a science fiction novel or watching the movie adaptation of it? Why?
b) Have you ever watched the film version instead of reading the book? if yes, mention it.
c) Is there a sci-fi film that you have watched that has made you want to read the book? If yes,
mention it.
d) Do you think that you can learn the same things from watching a film as from reading a
book? Elucidate.
Write a review on the Sci-Fi Movie (Time Travel) that is adopted from a book in 250 words.
Points to be included while writing:
• Identify the main events that take place in the book.
• Compare and contrast using specific events.
• Analyse the choices the director makes in recreating the events from the book.
ACTIVITY 3: ELDERLY CARE
Note: Watch the videos and read the article which is attached.
The Maintenace and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 is popularly known as the
Senior Citizen Act. It was enacted in the year 2007. The legislation aims to provide adequate
maintenance and effective welfare to old parents and senior citizens. So, the Act made it a legal
obligation for adult children and heirs to provide a monthly allowance for parents. The act also makes
it necessary for the children and relatives of senior citizens to maintain their parents and
grandparents. So, it lays down provisions to protect the life and property of senior citizens.
Answer the following questions in 40-50 words:
a) Write your reflections on the videos and the article.
b) Do you think the above-mentioned act is a futile effort to force elderly care?
c) What about the children who are employed away from their hometown and are struggling to
make ends meet?
