TOPIC: 3 QUALITIES OF GENEROUS PEOPLE SUNDAY, APRIL 21, 2024

SERIES: SUFFICIENCY & BEYOND PART II

Text: 2 Corinthians 8:6-7
So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving.
2 Corinthians 8:6 NLT

Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want
you to excel also in this gracious act of giving. 2 Corinthians 8:7 NLT

But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity. Isaiah 32:8 NLT

Giving is what we do; generous is who we are.

3 Qualities of Generous People

1. Generous people give willingly.

2. Generous people give proportionately.
3. Generous people give sacrificially.

1. Generous people give willingly.

… Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. 11Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness
to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according
to what one has, not according to what one does not have. 2 Corinthians 8:10-12 NIV

2. Generous people give proportionately.

... Give in proportion to what you have. 12Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have,
not what you don’t have. 2 Corinthians 8:11-12 NLT

Prioritize your portion.

“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.”
Leviticus 27:30 NIV

On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. ... 1 Corinthians 16:2 NLT

3. Generous people give sacrificially.

Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large
amounts. 42Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. 43Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this
poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor
as she is, has given everything she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44 NLT

TALK IT OVER
Read Isaiah 32:8. What are some ways people can plan to be generous? What might make it difficult for people to “stand firm in their
generosity’’?

Generous people give willingly, proportionally, and sacrificially. Which of those three qualities would you like to grow in most?

What’s one step you could take this week to become a more generous person?

Conclusion:
So beloved, let us remember that being a generous giver is a mindset that we must adopt. There are countless scriptures in the bible
that discuss giving, so let us be assured that this is the will of God for us. Let us begin to plan to give our offerings and tithes to the
Lord, and also be a blessing to others as well.

Prayer Points:
●Give God Praise for our Resident Pastor and, his family for the divine Word that was brought forth.
●Commit to giving generously to God, to the works of the Lord and to people who are in need.
●Ask for grace to plan to give diligently to give willingly, proportionally and sacrificially, not withholding from the Lord what belongs to
Him.
