You want to prepare the installation of an SAP system. For this reason, you need to check for
the installation DVDs, JCE Policy Files, and use the prerequisite checker to check hardware
and software requirements.
Task 1
Check whether the installation DVDs are available.
1. Logon to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection. To
logon to your host, use the host name, user name, and password provided by your
instructor.
Note:
Use a terminal service client to connect to your host.
Task 2
Prepare the installation by installing the JDK and setting the JAVA_HOME variable.
2. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the installed Java home directory D:\j2sdk.
Hint:
Follow the instructions given in the concept ‘Environment Variables’.
Task 3
Check whether the JCE Policy Files are on your host.
1. Check that the JCE Policy Files are available in folder D:\ADM110_NEW\Inst_Additional
\02_JCE_Policy_File.
Task 4
Use the prerequisite checker to check the hardware and software requirements.
1. Start SAPinst.
You may find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\ECE_606_ASE\
BSNW703_IM_SYB_BS7I2011_ABAP_NW703_Master\DATA_UNITS

Note:
Refer to PREREQUISITE_CHECK_DATA.XML file at D:\ ADM110_NEW

prerequisite checks.
Business Example
You want to prepare the installation of an SAP system. For this reason, you need to check for
the installation DVDs, JCE Policy Files, and use the prerequisite checker to check hardware
and software requirements.
Task 1
Check whether the installation DVDs are available.
1. Logon to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection. To
logon to your host, use the host name, user name, and password provided by your
instructor.
Note:
Use a terminal service client to connect to your host.
Task 2
Prepare the installation by installing the JDK and setting the JAVA_HOME variable.
b) In the Java 2 SDK, SE v1.4.2_36 - Custom Setup dialog box, choose the Change
pushbutton.
c) In the Java 2 SDK, SE v1.4.2_36 - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, enter D:\j2sdk in the
Folder name: field and then choose the OK pushbutton.
d) In the Java 2 SDK, SE v1.4.2_36 - Custom Setup dialog box, choose the Next
pushbutton.
e) In the Java 2 SDK, SE v1.4.2_36 - Complete dialog box, choose the Finish pushbutton.
2. Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the installed Java home directory D:\j2sdk.
Hint:
Follow the instructions given in the concept ‘Environment Variables’.
b) In the System Properties dialog box, switch to the Advanced tab page and then choose
the Environment Variables pushbutton.
c) In the Environment Variables dialog box, choose the New pushbutton under the System
variables section.
d) In the New System Variable dialog box, enter a variable name, for example, JAVA_HOME
in the Variable name: field and then enter a variable value, for example, D:\j2sdk in
the Variable value: field.
e) Choose the OK pushbutton. The JAVA_HOME variable is now present in the system
variables list.
Task 3
Check whether the JCE Policy Files are on your host.
1. Check that the JCE Policy Files are available in folder D:\ADM110_NEW\Inst_Additional
\02_JCE_Policy_File.
a) On the remote desktop, choose Start → Computer → Database (D:) →
ADM110_NEW → Inst_Additional → 02_JCE_Policy_File. The D:\ADM110_NEW
\Inst_Additional\02_JCE_Policy_File screen appears that shows the available Policy
Files.
Task 4
Use the prerequisite checker to check the hardware and software requirements.
1. Start SAPinst.
You may find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\ECE_606_ASE\
BSNW703_IM_SYB_BS7I2011_ABAP_NW703_Master\DATA_UNITS
\BS2011_IM_WINDOWS_X86_64_SYB.
Note:
Refer to PREREQUISITE_CHECK_DATA.XML file at D:\ ADM110_NEW
\Inst_Additional\Prerequisites_Check_SAP_Note_0855498 for the
prerequisite checks.
b) On the Welcome to SAP Installation Master screen, choose Enhancement Package 6 for
SAP ERP 6.0 → Software Life-Cycle Options → Additional Preparation Options →
Prerequisites Check.
Hint:
You can also perform the following steps to enter the data file for
prerequisites check:
d) On the Prerequisites Checker Options screen, choose the options for which you want to
check specific prerequisites from the Check Prerequisites column and then choose the
Next pushbutton.
Note:
Select the prerequisite options on the basis of the installation type. For
example, if you plan to install an SAP system with usage types based on AS
ABAP and AS Java, select the instances for both. If you do not choose any
option, only the essential prerequisites for an installation are checked.
e) On the Prerequisites Checker Database Information screen, choose the database type,
specify the database version if required, and then choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
In this task, select MaxDB as the database type; database version is not
required.
f) On the Prerequisites Checker SAP System screen, specify information about your SAP
system and then choose the Next pushbutton.
g) On the Parameter Summary screen, choose the Next pushbutton. The prerequisites
check starts.
Note:
Choose the Next pushbutton to start the prerequisites check with the
parameter values shown on the Parameter Summary screen. Otherwise,
select the parameters to be changed and choose the Revise pushbutton.
You are then taken to the screen where you can change the parameter.
h) On the Prerequisites Checker Results screen, the results of prerequisite analysis are
displayed. Choose the Next pushbutton.
i) Reject the dialog box that appears with message Do you want to repeat the checks
before continuing? and accept the dialog box that appears with the message
Execution of Enhancement Package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0 → Software Life-Cycle
Options → Additional Preparation Options → Prerequisites Check has
completed.
Business Example
You want to prepare the installation of an SAP system. For this reason, you need to check the
type of file system and confirm that the user has administration rights.
Task 1
Check whether the file system is NTFS.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
check whether the file system of the installation partition D: is NTFS.
Hint:
Follow the instructions given in the concept ‘Check of Windows File System’.

SAPinst and define the software packages for SAP Solution Manager installation.
Install the SAP Solution Manager 7.1 system on the combined platform of Windows and SAP
MaxDB.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\SolMan_710_MaxDB
\51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Master\IM_WINDOWS_X86_64.
2. Start the installation of the SAP Solution Manager system as a central system.

Business Example
You want to install the SAP Solution Manager 7.1 system. For this reason, you must start
SAPinst and define the software packages for SAP Solution Manager installation.
Install the SAP Solution Manager 7.1 system on the combined platform of Windows and SAP
MaxDB.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\SolMan_710_MaxDB
\51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Master\IM_WINDOWS_X86_64.
a) On the remote desktop, choose Start → Computer → Database
(D:) → ADM110_NEW → SolMan_710_MaxDB → 51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Mas
ter → IM_WINDOWS_X86_64 and then double-click the sapinst.exe file to start the
installation.
2. Start the installation of the SAP Solution Manager system as a central system.
a) On the Welcome to SAP Installation Master screen, choose SAP Solution Manager
7.1 → SAP Systems → MaxDB → Central System → Central System.
Hint:
If the What do you want to do? screen appears, select the Run a new
option radio button. After selecting the radio button, all the old files and
folders are moved to the new subfolder, even if these file and folders are
owned by other users.
If there are any processes currently running on these files and folders,
they may no longer function properly. In this case, all control files are
copied again from the SAP Solution Manager installation DVD.
If you select the Continue with old option radio button, then the system
uses the old control files for running the installation processes.
3. Use the following paths to enter the Java software package and JCE Policy Files during the
installation:

a) On the Parameter Mode > Default Settings screen, select the Typical radio button and
then choose the Next pushbutton.
Hint:
If you select the Typical radio button, you only have to respond to a small
selection of prompts. If you select the Custom radio button, you are
prompted for all parameters.
b) On the Media Browser > Software Package Request screen, enter the path for the Java
software package as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the SAP System > JCE Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files Archive screen,
enter the path for the JCE Policy Files as shown in the table and then choose the Next
pushbutton.
Installation Drive D:
Password for all users of this SAP system* s00adm## (where ## stands for your two-
digit group number)
Database ID (DBSID)* S00
a) On the SAP System > General Parameters screen, enter the data as shown in the table
and then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the SAP System > Master Password screen, enter the data as shown in the table,
confirm the password, and then choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the SAP System Database screen, enter the data as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
If the value is not present in the Database Host field, enter the host name.
Although twdf1526 is used as a database host, you can always enter the
host name on which you run the installation.
Note:
If the Prerequisites Checker > Results screen with a message box for
prerequisites checks (repeat the checks) appears, then reject that
message box.
5. Use the following paths to enter the software package DVDs during the installation:
a) On the Media Browser > Software Package Request screen, enter the paths of software
packages as shown in the table.
Note:
After entering each path, choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the SAP System > SAP Cryptographic Software screen, enter the path for the
cryptographic software as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the SAP System > System Landscape Directory screen, select the Configure a local
SLD radio button and then choose the Next pushbutton.
6. Enter the following object server name and the diagnostic agent system ID:

a) On the SAP System > Local SLD screen, enter the data as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the Diagnostics Agent > General System Parameters screen, enter the data as

a) On the Parameter Summary screen, select the checkboxes as shown in the table and
then choose the Revise pushbutton. You now reach the selected parameter screens
where you can change the values.
b) On the MaxDB Database screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the MaxDB Log Volumes screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
d) On the MaxDB Data Volumes screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
e) On the SAP System > Database Import screen, change the value as shown in the table
and then choose the Next pushbutton.
f) On the SAP System > Central and SCS Instance screen, change the value for the SCS
instance number as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
g) On the SAP System > Central and SCS Instance screen, change the value for the SCS
message server port as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
If you do not want to change the values of the parameters, you can directly
choose the Next pushbutton on the Parameter Summary screen. In this
case, the installation starts with the default values.
b) On the Task Progress screen, the task bar shows the progress states of various
processes of installing SAP Solution Manager.
Hint:
Reduce the value of the profile parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE by using the
Parameter_ Changes.txt file stored at D:\ADM110_NEW\Inst_Additional\
07_Parameter_Changes after SAP Solution Manager is installed.
a) Accept the message box that shows the installation completed successfully.
Business Example
You want to install an additional application server. For this reason, you must start SAPinst
and define the software packages required for installing an additional application server.
Install an additional application server for the previously installed SAP Solution Manager
system.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\SolMan_710_MaxDB
\51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Master\IM_WINDOWS_X86_64.
Note:
If the value of the dialog instance is not 01, change it to 01.
Hint:
Reduce the value of the PHYS_MEMSIZE profile parameter.
Business Example
You want to install an additional application server. For this reason, you must start SAPinst
and define the software packages required for installing an additional application server.
Install an additional application server for the previously installed SAP Solution Manager
system.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\SolMan_710_MaxDB
\51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Master\IM_WINDOWS_X86_64.
a) On the remote desktop, choose Start → Computer → Database (D:) →
ADM110_NEW → SolMan_710_MaxDB → 51039991_SolMan71_Installation_Master
→ IM_WINDOWS_X86_64 and then double-click the sapinst.exe file to start the
installation.
a) On the Parameter Mode > Default Settings screen, select the Typical radio button and
then choose the Next pushbutton.
Hint:
If you select the Typical radio button, you have to respond to only a small

b) On the SAP System > General Parameters screen, choose the Next pushbutton.
By default, the \\<SAPGLOBALHOST>\sapmnt\<SAPSID>\SYS\profile path is
present in the Profile Directory field.
Hint:
You can also use D:\usr\sap\S00\SYS\profile path for the profile
directory.
c) On the SAP System > Master Password screen, enter the master password, confirm
the password, and then choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
If, after this step, the Prerequisites Checker > Results screen appears with a
message box for prerequisite checks (repeat the checks), reject the
message box.
d) On the Media Browser > Software Package Request screen, enter the paths of software
packages, as shown in the table.
Note:
After entering each path, choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
If the value of the dialog instance is not 01, change it to 01.
a) On the Parameter Summary screen, choose the Next pushbutton to start the
installation.
Note:
The steps to change the dialog instance values to 01 are as follows:
a) On the Parameter Summary screen, select the SAP System > Dialog
Instance checkbox and then choose the Revise pushbutton.
b) On the SAP System > Dialog Instance screen, enter 01 in the Dialog
Instance Number field and then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the Task Progress screen, the task bar shows the progress states of various
processes of installing an additional application server.
Hint:

You want to install an SAP ERP Central Component 6.06 system. For this reason, you must
start SAPinst and define the software package for SAP ERP Central Component installation.
Caution:
Make sure that you are using the user “install” to execute this installation.
Install an SAP ERP Central Component 6.06 system on the combined platform of Microsoft
Windows and Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).
Caution:
Before installing the SAP ERP Central Component system, confirm that you have
installed the SAP Solution Manager system on the same host.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at Database (D:)\ADM110_NEW
\ECC_606_ASE\BSNW703_IM_SYB_BS7I2011_ABAP_NW703_Master\DATA_UNITS
\BS2011_IM_WINDOWS_X86_64_SYB.
2. Start the installation of the SAP ERP Central Component system as the central system.
3. Define the general parameters and passwords needed during the installation.
Enter the data as follows:

Install an SAP ERP Central Component 6.06 system on the combined platform of Microsoft
Windows and Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).
Caution:
Before installing the SAP ERP Central Component system, confirm that you have
installed the SAP Solution Manager system on the same host.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You will find the sapinst.exe file at Database (D:)\ADM110_NEW
\ECC_606_ASE\BSNW703_IM_SYB_BS7I2011_ABAP_NW703_Master\DATA_UNITS
\BS2011_IM_WINDOWS_X86_64_SYB.
a) On the remote desktop, choose Start → Computer → Database
(D:) → ADM110_NEW → ECC_606_ASE → BSNW703_IM_SYB_BS7I2011_ABAP_NW70
3_Master → DATA_UNITS → BS2011_IM_WINDOWS_X86_64_SYB and then double-
click the sapinst.exe file.
2. Start the installation of the SAP ERP Central Component system as the central system.
a) On the Welcome to SAP Installation Master screen, choose Enhancement Package 6 for
SAP ERP 6.0 → SAP Application Server ABAP → Sybase ASE → Central
System → Central System and then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the What do you want to do? screen, select the Run a new option radio button and
then choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the Parameter Mode > Default Settings screen, select the Typical radio button and
then choose the Next pushbutton.
Note:
If you select the Typical radio button, you only have to respond to a small

3. Define the general parameters and passwords needed during the installation.

d) On the SAP System > OS User Passwords screen, enter the passwords of the SAP
system administrator and the SAP system service user as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
e) On the Operating System User for Sybase Database Administration screen, enter the
password as shown in the table, confirm the password, and then choose the Next
pushbutton.
Note:
Steps (d) and (e) are optional.
a) On the Media Browser > Software Package Request screen, enter the paths for
software packages as shown in the table.
Note:
After entering each path, choose the Next pushbutton.
a) On the Parameter Summary screen, select the checkboxes as shown in the table and
then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the Sybase ASE Database System Parameters screen, change the value as shown in
the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the MaxDB Database screen, change the values as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
d) On the MaxDB Log Volumes screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
e) On the SAP System > Database Import screen, change the value as shown in the table
and then choose the Next pushbutton.
f) On the SAP System > Central Instance screen, change the value for the central
instance number as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
g) On the SAP System > Central Instance screen, change the value for the ABAP message
server port as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the Task Progress screen, the progress bar shows the status of processes.
Note:
If necessary, generate the SAP Solution Manager key to continue the
installation. The steps to generate the SAP Solution Manager key are
described in the “Installation of an SAP ERP Central Component 6.06
system” section of this lesson.
Hint:
Do not forget to adapt the profile parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE.
Business Example
You want to install an SAP XSS system. For this reason, you must start SAPinst and define the
software packages for SAP XSS installation.
Install an SAP XSS system.
1. Log on to the operating system of your server using the Remote Desktop Connection and
start SAPinst. You can find the sapinst.exe file at D:\ADM110_NEW\XSS_73_MaxDB
\51042259_19_BS2011_JHUB_Inst.Master_Windows_Server_on_x64_64bit_for_ADA

they may no longer function properly. In this case, all control files are
copied again from the SAP Solution Manager installation DVD.
If you select the Continue with old option radio button, then the system
uses the old control files for running the installation processes.
3. Use the following paths to enter the Java software package during the installation:

d) On the UME Configuration screen, select the Use Java Database radio button and then

If the UME Configuration screen appears after each value is changed, choose
the Next pushbutton and make sure that the Use Java Database radio button is
selected every time.
b) On the MaxDB Database screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
c) On the MaxDB Log Volumes screen, change the value as shown in the table and then
choose the Next pushbutton.
d) On the Primary Application Server Instance and Central Services Instance screen,
change the value as shown in the table and then choose the Next pushbutton.
b) On the Task Progress screen, the task bar shows the progress states of various
processes in installing the SAP XSS system.
c) Accept the message box that shows the installation has completed successfully.

b) On the Computer screen, choose Database (D:) → usr → sap → <sid> → DVEBMGS##
(where ## is your two-digit group number).
c) Open the files, dev_ms, dev_disp, dev_rd, and dev_w0 and check these files for errors.

In case the system entry is not created, you need to first create it by filling
in the appropriate details.
f) On the SAP screen, enter the username and the password provided by the instructor.
g) On the SAP Easy Access screen, run the transaction SM51 to display the active SAP
instances.
h) On the SAP Easy Access screen, run the transaction SM50 to display the list of work
processes of the instance to which you are logged on.
i) On the SAP Easy Access screen, run the transaction SM21 to check the system log for
