DEFINITION OF BROADCAST NEWS

Broadcast news is a broadcast that conveys news to the public.

It is also an audio corpus that consists of recordings from TV and radio

broadcast used for developing or performing assessment of speech recognition

systems.

Broadcast news is the broadcasting of various news events and other

information via television, radio or internet in the field of broadcast journalism.

Broadcast news is different from print news because it is intended to be

presented to a listening or viewing audience, and not to be read.

TYPES OF BROADCAST NEWS AND EXAMPLES

1. TRADITIONAL NEWS

This includes crime stories, political stories, education news, city council

news, etc.

2. SPORT NEWS

This includes news about the sport world. An example is FIFA World Cup.

3. DAY-TO-DAY BREAKING NEWS STORIES

This is a type of broadcast news that gives the latest news and analysis of

issues from Nigeria, Africa and around the world, direct into your inbox,

daily. Examples are: The Vanguard Punch Newspapers, The Guardian,

Leadership News, etc.

4. ENTERTAINMENT BROADCAST NEWS

This deals with information of the entertainment industry such as television

shows, music, fashion, films, video games and events among others. The

main purpose of this type of news is to entertain. Examples are: fashion

coverage, comedy, musical concerts, films, etc.

5. INVESTIGATIVE BROADCAST NEWS

This is a form of broadcast news in which reporters deeply investigate a

single topic of interest such as political corruption, serious crimes or

corporate wrong doing. Examples includes: Los Fogones de la kitchen, the

lost tablet and the secret documents, in the shadow of warships, etc.

6. GENERAL BROADCAST NEWS

This shows focusing on National and internal matters or issues. Examples

are: NBC News, BBC News, Fox News, CNN, Channel, CAN and Al

Jazeera.
