Mini Lesson

Drafting Water Distribution Systems

This lesson is designed to familiarize you on how to layout the proper distribution of water
system (hot and cold water) using AutoCAD. Signs and symbols are provided in this module for
you to use which are based on the standard Water Code of the Philippines. Hot and cold water is
supplied to the buildings by a series of pipes connected from the source under pressure to the
building fixtures thru a water line distribution system.

Below are some of the common pipe fittings symbols used in AutoCAD that are already
created as blocks to be used or inserted in most of the floor plans.

Isometric Drawing in AutoCAD

Isometric drawings can be used to provide a three-dimensional representation of a

plumbing layout, in order to effectively visualize the layout of draft plan. It is sometimes called a
plumbing riser diagram. It’s not a 3D drawing, but simply a change in your drawing orientation.
You can do it by using snap, then change its style to isometric.

Command: SNAP
Specify snap spacing or [ON/OFF/Aspect/Style/Type] <10.0000>: S
Enter snap grid style [Standard/Isometric] <S>: I
Specify vertical spacing <10.0000>:
You can change your plane by typing ISOPLANE [enter] then select left, top, right.

In newer AutoCAD version, we have ISODRAFT option. If you use AutoCAD 2015, you
can access the option in drafting settings, AutoCAD status bar.

What’s More?

AutoCAD Blocks for Drafting Sanitary and Plumbing Layout

Directions: Create a complete AutoCAD Blocks for all the pipe fitting and symbols based from
what you have learned from the previous lessons. It should be saved on a separate folder named
“Plumbing Fixtures” to be added to the Design Center of your AutoCAD Libraries.

Note: If you don’t have available computer or laptop with AutoCAD at home you may draw
this symbol manually. But if you wish to do this in AutoCAD you may do so in your own
initiative.

Once you are done please submit your output to your teacher. If you’re done in
AutoCAD you may send your file through FB messenger or ask drive link from your teacher.
If you’re done manually then submit it together with your module.

What I Have Learned?

Simple Water Distribution Layout

Direction: After having finished all the AutoCAD blocks for pipe fittings, practice creating a
Simple Water Distribution Layout as shown in the drawing.
