PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:

1. Describe the structural frame

2. Apply the structural frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

In my initial situation at Blanco Tacos and Tequila, a part of Sam Fox Restaurants, my
role encompassed clearing and setting tables, in addition to maintaining the cleanliness of the
establishment. As a busser, I was directly impacted when the advent of COVID-19 necessitated
staff reductions, underscoring the pandemic's profound effect on individuals within the restaurant
industry.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the

situation.

The human resources aspect of Blanco Tacos and Tequila played a significant role in how
the situation unfolded during the pandemic. The organization's decision-making process,
primarily centralized at the higher echelons of the group, inadvertently prioritized operational
continuity over employee retention, leading to the dismissal of several staff members, including
myself. This approach highlighted a lack of adaptability in human resources strategies, where the
value and potential contributions of lower-level employees during crises were overlooked. The
existing human resources framework, while efficient under normal circumstances, failed to
leverage the diverse skill sets and adaptability of its workforce, resulting in missed opportunities
for innovation and collective resilience.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative
course of action regarding your case.
An alternative approach could have emphasized a more inclusive and flexible human resources
strategy. By engaging all levels of staff in the decision-making process, the restaurant could have
explored innovative solutions to the challenges posed by the pandemic. For instance, employees
could have been redeployed to roles that supported an expanded takeout service, virtual cooking
classes, or community engagement initiatives, thus maintaining employment while adapting to
new market demands. This strategy would not only have preserved jobs but also fostered a sense
of belonging and collective effort, enhancing the organization's resilience. Additionally, investing
in training and development programs could have equipped employees with new skills relevant
to the evolving restaurant landscape, further securing their employment and enabling the
business to pivot more effectively in response to external shocks.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have
learned about this frame.

Reflecting on the human resource frame, I recognize the critical importance of viewing
employees as valuable resources capable of contributing to organizational adaptability and
resilience. Had there been a greater emphasis on participatory decision-making and investment in
employee development, the response to the pandemic could have been markedly different. Going
forward, I would advocate for a human resource strategy that values employee input, promotes
flexibility, and prioritizes the development of a versatile skill set. This approach would not only
enhance the organization's ability to navigate crises but also cultivate a more engaged and
committed workforce. Personally, I aim to continuously expand my skills and adaptability,
positioning myself as an asset in diverse roles and circumstances, thereby contributing to a more
resilient and inclusive workplace culture.
