QUESTION 1 (30 marks)

Using your own words as far as possible, summarise the strategies for a successful
implementation of mentoring programme in the workplace. Your summary should be
between 200 to 250 words.

Introductory Statement: Apt strategies should be practised by the management to ensure


that both the experienced and less experienced employees who engage in such a
programme could benefit from it.

Contents:

1. Employees nearing retirements could pass on the experience-based knowledge they


have acquired to the midcareer professionals by mentoring them.

 Address any expertise shortages, preservation of critical knowledge, and


management of succession of an organisation.

2. Allow mentees to be mentored on a plethora of soft skills.

 Help them handle workplace relationships, thus benefitting the mentees in the
organisational roles they assume in the future. (placing great emphasis on
various areas of workplace soft skills which include leadership,
strategic thinking and communication skills & techniques)

3. Demystify the insider knowledge and teach employees the unwritten rules that do not
appear in any employee handbooks.

 Offer the mentees insights into how the organisation works, serve as role
models for operating within the workplace culture and help them forge cross-
functional and cross-generational workplace networks for them.

4. Frame a structured mentoring programme.

 Monitor the impact of the mentoring initiative and identify what is working or
not working, and ensure that the objectives of the current and future
mentoring programmes are met.

Conclusion: The mentoring strategies could ensure a successful implementation of any


mentoring programmes at any workplace environments.
