Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

My organization is Siren Retail, a subsidiary of Starbucks containing the flagship

Reserve and Roastery brands. We hold a unique space within the greater Starbucks
organization, focused on delivering exceptional products and experiences to our
customers in a different and elevated way from their typical Starbucks experience. Our
locations are designed to be immersive shrines to coffee and food, places for customers to
experience coffee in a way they never have before. Our products are intended to
showcase coffee and food, and the connection that emerges from sharing these in good
company. While this is the intention of the brand, we are still relatively young compared
to the greater organization. Our first location opened in 2014 and we have since expanded
globally to six Roasteries with three in the United States alone. Over the last year we
have seen significan change in the organization to begin to stabilize our operations and
strategic approach, and create a more cohesive and sustainable brand identity.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

I am an internal to the organization, working as an Associate Manager in one of our retail

locations. I work in close physical proximity to our support (corporate) teams and am
able to cultivate a strong professional network with them. I have worked for Starbucks
for almost six years, and it was a dream to work at a Roastery for years. I began working
as a barista at the Capitol Hill Roastery in Seattle in mid-2021 as the business emerged
from the most strict pandemic restrictions. Over the following few years I developed as a
trainer and supervisor and have spent the last year at our SODO location at the ground
floor of our headquarters. I am uniquely positioned as a retail leader within the
organization to hear what is in the pipeline from our product and operations teams, even
getting to attend town halls hosted by our VP leadership.

 3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

My current organizational leaders have been driving significant change to stabilize and
amplify our organization over the last year. About a year and a half ago, our parent
company Starbucks got a new CEO, and a year ago a new VP began in Siren Retail. After
several months in role, focusing on immersion and understanding the current state, our
VP hosted a town hall to unveil a new multi-year strategy developed in partnership with
stakeholders throughout the organization. The strategy is focused on three distinct but
complementary steps: stabilize, connect, and amplify. This approach is oriented to help
our organization restructure and focus on our bottom-line goals, create one-of-a kind
flagship experiences for customers in our locations, and deliver exceptional employee
experiences at the same time. Concretely, this leadership team has initiated sweeping
reorgs on both the support and retail sides of the organization to break dysfunctional
structures and create more innovative, sustainable, and efficient ways of working. There
is intentional partnership with stakeholders at every level of the organization to gain
insights and hear key ideas, driving innovation throughout. I am exited to be a part of the
organization through this change and hope to continue my career journey with Siren
Retail as it continues to evolve over the next couple of years.
