Mid-Term ELTM

1. According to Henry Fayol, George R. Terry and Koontz, there are five basic principle of
management
 Planning. It is the basic function of management. It deals with chalking out a future
course of action and deciding in advance the most appropriate course of actions for
achievement of predetermined goals.
 Organizing. It is the process of bringing together physical, financial and human resource
and developing productive relationship amongst them for achievement of organizational
goals.
 Staffing. It is the function of manning the organization structure and keeping it manned.
Staffing has assumed greater importance in the recent years due to advancement of
technology, increase in size of business, complexity of human behavior etc.
 Directing. It is the part of managerial function which actuates the organizational methods
to work efficiently for achievement of organizational purposes.
 Controlling. It implies measurement of accomplishment against the standards and
correction of deviation if any to ensure achievement of organizational goals.

How to apply the principles in managing Human Resources, Finance, Facilities and
programs in language institutions, namely by utilizing everything that is available, for
example when there are human resources, facilities and finances, then we have to maximize
all of that. Like we have to make plans for a language institution, and when we have planned
it, we have to organize a language institution, because when we don't have an organization,
the language institution may not work. Next, namely after planning, organizing, we must
control everything that happens to the language institution. When we have all of these things,
language institutions will run well.

2. Description about strategic planning, tactical planning and operational planning

 Strategic Planning
Strategic planning is a document that describe the goals of an organization. It also
provides guidance for planning activities to achieve those goals. The plan can be used by
management as well as employees. In strategic planning focus on direction and vision.
Example of strategic planning is developing a new product line, expanding into new
markets.
 Tactical Planning
Tactical plans are usually short-term in nature. They provide direction on how to
accomplish specific objectives within a specified time frame. A tactical plan may include
detailed schedules or instructions on how to complex tasks. In tactical planning is focus
in implementation of strategy. Example is reorganizing a department, streamlining a
process.
 Operational Planning
Operational planning describe what will happen during a given period of time. These
plans are often referred to as operational plans because they define the day-to-day
operations of an organization. In operational planning is focus on execution of tactical
plans. Example is hiring and training employees, scheduling production runs.

3. Job analysis is a procedure for determining the duties and abilities required by the job and the
types of people to be hired. There are two elements in job analysis, namely job descriptions
and job specifications.
 Job description. Job description includes basic job-related data that is useful to advertise a
specific job and attract a pool of talent. It includes information such as job title, job
location, reporting to and of employees.
 Job specification is a written statement of educational qualifications, specific qualities,
level of experience, physical, emotional, technical and communication skills required to
perform a job, responsibilities involved in a job.

In organizing we have to do "Job Analysis, Job Description and Job Specification"

because when we are looking for employees, we have to look for employees who match what
we are looking for. Therefore required job analysis, job description, and job specification in
the organization.
4. SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate strengths
(Strengths), Weaknesses (Weaknesses), opportunities (Opportunities) and threats (Threats)
that occur in a project or in a business venture, or evaluate own product lines or competitors.
To carry out the analysis, business objectives are determined or identify the object to be
analyzed.
 The SO strategy is strengths and opportunities where we use strengths to take advantage
of existing opportunities.
 ST strategy where we produce strategies that can use strength to avoid threats in an
organization.
 WO strategy where we produce a strategy that takes advantage of an opportunity by
overcoming these weaknesses.
 WT strategy where we produce strategies that minimize weaknesses and avoid threats.
