ASSESSMENT TASK NOTIFICATION

DEPARTMENT Mathematics COURSE Year 8 da Vinci

TASK NO 5 WEIGHTING 30%

DUE DATE Exam Block: Wed 9th Nov – Wed 16th Nov 2022, Week 5/6

DESCRIPTION OF TASK
35 minute Written Test. (2 x 15 mark questions – 30 marks)

The topics to be assessed will include:

• Data Analysis Cambridge Mathematics 8 Ch 9 (Ex 9G, 9I, 9J) & dV Supplement

• Measurement Cambridge Mathematics 8 Ch 3 (Ex 3A – 3I, 3K – 3M) & dV Supplement

• Linear Relationships Cambridge Mathematics 8 Ch 7 (Ex 7A – 7I) & dV Supplement

SUBMISSION DETAILS
• Students will write their answers on the question paper.
• Students are to bring with them their ruler, lead pencil, eraser, writing pens, sharpener and protractor.
• Calculators are permitted in this task.
• Notes and textbooks are not permitted in this task.
• It is your responsibility to ensure that you reschedule any music lessons or appointments with the
counsellor that clash with the date of this assessment task.

SYLLABUS OUTCOMES
 MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and
symbols
 MA4-2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems
 MA4-3WM recognises and explains mathematical relationships using reasoning
 MA4-10NA uses algebraic techniques to solve simple linear and quadratic equations
 MA4-11NA creates and displays number patterns; graphs and analyses linear relationships; and performs
transformations on the Cartesian plane
 MA4-12MG calculates the perimeters of plane shapes and the circumferences of circles
 MA4-13MG uses formulas to calculate the areas of quadrilaterals and circles, and converts between units of
area
 MA4-14MG uses formulas to calculate the volumes of prisms and cylinders, and converts between units of
volume
 MA4-16MG applies Pythagoras’ theorem to calculate side lengths in right-angled triangles, and solves
related problems

SUGGESTED STRATEGIES FOR PREPARATION


• Complete some of the past papers that are available on the Knox Portal.
• Attempt the Chapter Review Exercises and the da Vinci supplements.
• You will also be assessed on section G in chapter 3, section H in chapter 7 and content in the da Vinci
supplement for these topics.
• You should look at harder questions from the textbook, in particular: 9G Q17&18, 9I Q15, 9J Q14,
3A Q15, 3D Q12, 3E Q16, 3F Q13, 3I Q15, 7A Q12, 13, 7C Q15, 7G Q12.
