Comments on PCC Breast wall Provided reinforcement of 8mm Dia at 180mm C/C is not

satisfying the requirement of 2.50kg/m2 as per Cl.710.1.1 of IRC 78, Hence suggested to
change the spacing from 180mm to 150mm.
Refer calculation below for.

Weight of 8 Dia bar = 0.39kg/m Length of bar in 1m = 1 m

Nos of bar in 1m = (1000/180) = 5.6 Nos of bars

Total weight = 0.39*1*5.6 = 2.18 kg/m2 < 2.5 Kg/m2 on each vertical and Horizontal face.

1. The Drawing for breast wall is only valid for inclination of earth slope upto 27 degree
and maximum height upto 3m, if there are any changes in above parameters it may
need revision of design and drawing and same needs to be approved from IE before
execution.
2. As per Table 2 IS 14458 (part 1):1998, Top width of wall should be considered 0.5m
minimum.
3. Mentioned SBC shall be ensured at site before execution.
4. Grade of reinforcement shall be mentioned in the drawing.
5. PCC shall be provided below 78mm Hard Stone chips provided behind breast wall.

Comments on Pier protection

1. Note shall be added “Crash barrier details (Dimensions, grade of concrete and steel)
shall be used as per approved Miscellaneous drawing no DDI 141”.
2. Below mentioned suggestion with respect to safety shall be considered
 Crash barrier shall be extended until CH 91+190 instead of CH 91+175 near to
abutment (i.e., increased 15m) for avoiding disturbance and potential hazards
to abutment.
 During excavation proper care to be ensured to avoid any disturbance to
existing railway bridge substructure i.e., Abutment/Pier. Moreover, extra care
to be taken to ensure that foundation of existing structure shall not be exposed.
Same shall be mentioned in the drawing.
