THE GREAT PLEBEIAM COLLEGE

Alaminos City, Pangasinan

COURSE SYLLABUS
nd
2 Semester, A.Y. 2023-2024

Name of the Faculty: Robert Joshua V. Ramos

Sched and Room: 11AM-12PM/ROOM 313
Course Name : Abstract Algebra
Course/ Year : College
Course Credits : 3 units

Course Description : An Introductory survey of abstract algebra and number theory with emphasis on the development and study of the number systems of integers, integers mod n, rationals, reals, and complex numbers. These offer examples of and motivation
for the study of the classical algebraic structures of groups, rings integral domains and fields. Applications to algebraic coding theory that will be developed if the time allows.
Contact Hours/week : 3 hours.
Pre – requisite : None
VISION : To be recognized leading private educational institutions in Pangasinan committed to provide an accessible equality education that produces “globally” competitive graduates.
MISSION : The Great Plebeian College (GPC) commits:
1. To produce graduates endowed with the 21st century skills and ethical values ready for the challenges of ASEAN Integration and Globalization
2. To be a catalyst of change and progress in the community.

OBJECTIVES :
1. To provide relevant curriculum and quality instruction that adheres to academic freedom and innovative teaching.
2. To develop the holistic personality of the students imbued with ethical virtues.
3. To engage in community services and research activities.
4. To provide equal access to education through scholarship and financial assistance.

CORE VALUES: P – Perseverance

L – Loyalty
E – Excellence
B – Benevolence
E – Equality
I – Integrity
A – Accountability
N – Nationalism
S – Spirituality

Departmental Objectives
The College of Teacher Education department aims to:

1. Develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for Elementary and/or Secondary Education

Course Outcome :
At the end of the semester, students must have:
1. Working knowledge of important mathematical concepts in abstract algebra such as definition of a group, order of a finite group and order of element.
2. Familiarize and have knowledge of many mathematical concepts studied in abstract mathematics such as permutation groups, factor groups and abelian groups.
3. Understanding and transition between previously studied mathematics and more advanced mathematics. The students will actively participate in the transition of important concepts such homomorphisms and isomorphisms from discrete mathematics to
advanced abstract mathematics.
4. Gained experience and confidence in proving theorems. A blended teaching method will be used requiring the students to prove theorems give the student the experience, knowledge, and confidence to move forward in study of mathematics.
