capacitance. What measures are taken to reduce them?

Q10] A 50 Hz, 11 KV, 3-phase alternator with earthed neutral has a reactance of 5 ohm/phase and is
connected to a bus bar through circuit breaker. The capacitance to earth between circuit breaker and
alternator is 0.02 microfarad per phase. Assuming the resistance of the alternator to be negligible,

(2)Max. voltage across the C.B. contacts and time at which it is maximum
(3)RRRV
(4)Maximum RRRV and time at which it is maximum.

0.025 micro farad respectively. A resistance of 600 ohm is connected across the circuit breaker. Determine:-
i) Natural frequency of oscillation,
ii) Damped frequency of oscillation,
iii) Critical value of resistance which will give no transient oscillation.
iv) The value of resistance which will give damped frequency of oscillation, one fourth of the natural
frequency of oscillation.

(ii) A fast acting circuit-breaker has to interrupt larger current as compared to the slow acting circuit-breaker.

Q17] A 3-phase, 50 Hz alternator with earthed neutral has an inductance of 1.58 mH per phase and it is
connected to the bus bar through an oil circuit breaker. The capacitance to earth of the circuit between the
alternator and circuit breaker is 0.0028 microfarad/ph. Due to a short-circuit on bus-bar the circuit breaker
