DEBATE COMPETITION 2023

Motion : Environmental degradation is an inevitable consequence of the


improvement in the standard of living.

The following are the rules and regulations governing the competition:

The competition is scheduled to be held on the Saturday, 18th of November 2023 from 10:00
a.m. onwards.

1) All the speakers/participants to reach by 8:30 a.m.


2) You are requested to confirm your entries latest by 9th November 2023.
3) No spot registration shall be permitted.
4) Students from classes IX to XII are eligible to participate in the competition.
5) Each school team must comprise two participants, one speaking FOR the motion and one
AGAINST.
6) There must be a faculty escorting the team duly authorized by the Head of the Institution.
7) Each participant will be given 4 minutes to speak. After three minutes a long bell will be rung
to remind the speaker that only one minute is left for her/him to wind her/his debate.
Speaking beyond the warning bell may attract negative marking.
8) The rebuttal will be in the form of questions where each debater will get an opportunity to
answer only one question put forth by the opposition team.
9) The debate will be judged by a panel of three judges.
The judges will use the following scoring format:-

Content 15 marks
Argument 10 marks
Appropriateness of language 10 marks
Delivery 10 marks
Rebuttal 05 marks

10) The participants will be penalized for disclosing the school they are representing by uniform
or verbal mention of it.
11) The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.
12) The participants may refer to the points noted by them on note cards, but reading out
prepared scripts will be penalized.

Dress Code:
Formal (Western or Indian).
Please co-operate by observing the above mentioned dress code for a fair judgment.
