Poetry is an imaginative awareness of experience expressed through meaning,
sound and rhythmic language. Drama is a composition of prose or verse presenting in
dialogue. Fiction is literature created from the imagination. Non-fiction is based on
facts and the author’s opinion about a subject.

Let’s recall the major lit erary genres!

POETRY - is an imaginative awareness of experience expressed through meaning,
sound and rhythmic language choices to evoke an emotional response. It has
been known to employ meter and rhyme. The very nature of poetry as an
authentic and individual mode of expression makes it nearly impossible to
define.

DRAMA- is a composition in prose or verse presenting in dialogue or pantomime a

story involving conflict more contrast of character, especially on intended to
be acted on a stage: a play. It may be any situation or series of events having
vivid, emotional, conflicting
conflicting or striking interest.
FICTION- is literature created from the imagination, not presented as fact, though it
may be based on a true story or situation. Types of literature in the fiction
include the novel, short story and novella.

NON-FICTION- is based on facts and the author’s opinion about a subject. The
purpose of non-fiction writing is to inform and sometimes to persuade. Its

Answer: The Tristan Cafe is a 21st Century book that falls under the category of flash
fiction. This is because it shows extreme brevity and the reader must analyze the text
and the words to decipher the story's exact message. Another reason is because the
story was very short. The story
st ory is only under 1000 words. Only parts of the whole story
can be seen in the text.

The Sun and the Moon were lovers a long time ago.

Lovebirds that only saw each other once in a while but always missed one other.

In his absence, the Sun desired to make his beloved love happy. Every night, he gave
up his light to shine on the Moon. He sacrificed something he was proud of in order to
let her shine.
