3.2 Preparation
3.2.1 Definition
Lifting and handling procedure describes handling of complete crane or larger parts
of the crane during testing, transport and installation.

3.2.2 Safety
All lifting and handling to be planned and performed with focus on safety to avoid
injury of the crane operator and handling crew. All lifting and handling to be planned
and performed in manners to avoid damage on the crane or crane parts.

3.2.3 Responsibility
The workshop, respectively the shipyard, is responsible for the lifting and handling.

Phone: +47 48 50 40 30 Mail: service@redrock.no Web: www.redrock.no
3.2.4 Lifting equipment
Lifting and handling always to be performed in low speed and in a safe and secure
manner. Always use certified and undamaged equipment with sufficient capacity.
Minimum safety factor to be 5:1. Soft slings of proper strength may be used for
smaller loads. Spreader beams, slings, shackles, rings, hooks etc. are not included
in Red Rock Marine AS scope of delivery.

3.2.5 Crane and spreaders

Single point lifting by use of spreader beam are preferred. When lifting without
spreader beams, never use shorter slings or more unfavorable “sling angle” than 30
degree. Lifting with two cranes always to be performed in low speed and with good
planning and good communication between crane operators. Crane and it`s
accessories are not included in Red Rock Marine AS scope of delivery.

3.2.6 Protection
Painting, cables, hoses etc. to be protected if necessary. If necessary wooden
material, rubber etc. to be used. Moveable items like cylinders etc. to be secured by
use of soft slings etc.

3.2.7 Disassembly of item

Disassembly of smaller items like ladders etc. may be needed to avoid damage
during lifting and handling. These parts must be handled and threated in the same
gentle way as the main parts.

3.3 Installation Step-by-Step

Follow the Main Assembly drawing and other relevant assembly drawings, to
assemble the Main Jib to the King.

3.3.1 Step 1:

3.3.1.1 Installation of king and pedestal

1. Lift king and pedestal from horizontal position to vertical position on quay side
according to lifting and handling procedures and drawings.
3
Red Rock Marine AS: Stemmane 7, 4636 Kristiansand, Norway
Phone: +47 48 50 40 30 Mail: service@redrock.no Web: www.redrock.no
2. Lift and install all platforms onto king according to assembly drawings. This
can also be done after welding of king and pedestal on board vessel.
3. Bring the electro cables from the drag chain into the cabinet in the cabin. The
cables are still mounted into the mounting plate and this plate should be
connected to the bottom of the cabin cabinet. This can also be done after
welding of king and pedestal onboard vessel.
4. Prepare counter flange on vessel for welding according to welding procedure.
Guides for entering the two parts together is recommended.
5. Lift the king and pedestal (with cabin and platforms) on board vessel for
welding. Make sure the king and pedestal is lifted correctly. Adjustment of the
vessel to keep the level may be needed.
6. After the crane is secured an electrical team can start the connection of the
cables in the cabin. This shall be done according to electrical diagram. A
verification of the connections done in cabin cabinet has to performed by
vessel electrician to make sure all connections are correct.

3.3.1.2 Installation of winches

7. Lift and place main and whip winch onto main jib.
8. Mechanical, electrical and hydraulic connection of winches according to Red
Rock documentation.

4

Phone: +47 48 50 40 30 Mail: service@redrock.no Web: www.redrock.no
9. Route wire if possible. Can also be done after start-up of crane when winches
can be run from crane cabin.
10. Install wire sheaves.

3.3.1.3 Installation of VFD

11. Prepare and lift the Variable Frequency Converter (VFD) onboard the vessel.
12. Install VFD according to Red Rock documentation.
13. Connect VFD according to Red Rock documentation. A verification of the
connections done in cabin cabinet has to performed by vessel electrician to
make sure all connections are correct.

3.3.1.4 Installation of Interface Cabinet

14. Prepare and lift the vessel interface cabinet onboard the vessel.
15. Install vessel interface cabinet according to Red Rock documentation.
16. Connect vessel interface cabinet according to Red Rock documentation. A
verification of the connections done has to performed by vessel electrician to
make sure all connections are correct.
17. Connect the external emergency button.

3.3.2 Step 2:

3.3.2.1 Installation of main jib

18. Make a temporary cradle for main luffing cylinders before lifting cylinder onto
king.
19. Lift and connect main luffing cylinders onto king. The main luffing cylinders
should rest on the temporary cradle when they are installed. (NOTE: each
cylinder is marked with Right or Left - seen from back of crane)
20. After installation of the main luffing cylinders lift the cylinders up to approx. 90
degrees to check for collision between cylinder lug and king structure. Be
careful and do it slowly to avoid damage to cylinder and king. (This was done
in the factory.
21. Lift and install main jib according to documentation. Adjustment of the vessel
to keep the level may be needed.

Always be careful moving and handling fragile parts. Lifting to always be performed
with low-speed, to secure crane operator and handling crew. Illustrations of lifting
plans and dimensions are included to help with installation, but first read all lifting
procedure and follow a logical assembly order.
Always use spreader beams for lifting the crane or components. (like illustrated
picture below)

3.3.2.2 Electrical hook-up foundation
1. Connect crane to vessel power supply according to electrical diagram.
2. Motor cables and 230V.

3.3.3 Step 3:

3.3.3.1 Electric and hydraulic hook-up main jib

3.3.4 Hydraulic oil
Fill the tank with oil through filter using the ball valve, see level gauge on the side of
the crane.
Warning: Only NAS class 6 or better is accepted. Impurities will strongly reduce the
efficiency and life span of system.

3.3.5 Gear oil

Check oil level on winch gearboxes and slew gear boxes. If necessary top up with
specified oil quality.

If gear is mounted vertical as slew gear, chamber for both gear and brake to be completely
filled with oil. Gear oil for gears. Brake must be filled with same hydraulic oil as in main oil
reservoir, HPU tank.

3.3.6 Electrical cable
EL-cables to be connected from starter cabinet to EL-motor according to EL
diagram.

Mount junction box on under the king, on the pre-made brackets.
Work is only permitted to be carried out by qualified specialists and must to be
carried out in accordance with local regulations. Before work commences, ensure
that all power is switched off and cannot be switched on again. This also applies to
the auxiliary power circuits, e.g. anti-condense heaters. Check that supply voltage
and frequency are the same as rated data. Motors can be used with a supply
deviation of ± 5% voltage and ± 2% frequency, according to IEC60034-1.
Connections must be made in such a way as to ensure that a permanently safe
electrical connection is maintained, both for the main supply and the earth
connection. We recommend that crimped connections are made in accordance with
IEC 60352-2.

Warning: Make sure that the el. motor runs clockwise seen from the el. motor cover
end. The main pump will be damaged if it runs counter-clockwise.

Installation of crane and its components are Yard responsibility, such as lifting,
welding, bolting and testing.

3.3.7 Secure all connections

Always check all hydraulic and electrical connections before connecting the system
to grid or starting the system for the first time. This is due to some connections can
be loosened while transporting or installing the crane.
