1 What are analgesics?


Analgesics, also called painkillers, are
medications that relieve different types of
pain-from headaches to injuries to arthritis.

2 Types of analgesics
1. Anti-inflammatory analgesics(
reduce inflammation) - aspirin,
ibuprofen, naproxen..
2. Oploid analgesics ( change the way
the brain perceives the pain) - codeine,
fantanyl, oxycodone

-diarrhea or constipation
-upset stomach or heartburn
- demage to internal organs

Over time, you may find that an analgesic
can become less and less effective, which is
called tolerance. You may need higher
doses or more frequent doses
