REVIEWER IN ENGLISH 2 (3RD QUARTER) VERBS – action words; they tell us what people, animals

or things are doing.

SHORT AND LONG SOUND


BE VERBS – these verbs connect words in a sentence;
SHORT A also called LINKING VERBS. (is, am, are)
>ant >man >pan >sad >pal >nag >back 1. Use am with the pronoun I.
>map >mat >dad >fan >cat >pants >apple 2. Use is with a singular noun with the pronouns
he, she, and it.
LONG A 3. Use are with a plural noun or the pronouns you,
we, and they.

ADVERB – a word that describes a verb. Many adverbs

end in –ly.

the –ing form of the verb.

2. For verbs that end in –e, drop first the final –e
>bunch >sun >tub >drum >truck >jug before adding –ing.
>trumpet 3. For one syllable verbs that have a short vowel
coming before the final consonant, double the

consonant before adding –ing.

4. For most other verbs, just add –ing.
