Teacher: Learning Area: SCIENCE

Teaching Dates and Time: FEBRUARY 20, 2024 Quarter: THIRD

I. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify the materials that can block, absorb or transmit light; Indicator
2. Conduct simple experiment, in RPMS
3. Enumerate ways on taking care of one’s eyes.
Learning Relate the ability of the materials to block, absorb or transmit light to
Competencies: its use. (S5FEIIIe-5)

Materials Used: flashlight, book, cellophane, mirror, black cloth, dark

bag, eyeglasses
Integration MAPEH (Music and Health)
Value Focus Self-Care
III. Preliminary
The class will do the prayer together as it shows in the video
A. Review
1,3,7
The teacher shows pictures of different materials and the learners will
determine whether they are conductors or insulators of
electricity/heat.

a. Can you see the pictures?

b. Let us identify these materials if they are conductors or
insulators.

B. Motivational
Activity The class will sing the song “Science Time” to set the mood. 1,6,7,8

The teacher delivers the objectives of the lesson for the day.
C. Presentation The teacher shows a clip of an aquarium.

Learners will be asked is they are able to see what’s inside the
aquarium, the things they see inside it, and how they are able to see
it. 1,3,4,5,7,
8

a. What have you seen in the video?

b. What did the vlogger put inside the aquarium?
c. Why is it that everything inside the aquarium is visible?
d. What helps you see things clearly inside the aquarium?

The teacher introduces the idea of LIGHT.

The teacher will show a video presentation about How Lights Interacts
with Different Materials.

1,3,4,5,7
8

 REFRACTION - refers to the bending of light as it passes from

one transparent substance into another.
 REFLECTION - refers to the bouncing back of light when it hits
an object.
 ABSORPTION - refers to a material’s taking in of light and not
reflecting it back.
 TRANSMISSION - refers to passing of light through some
materials.
D. Main Activity
The teacher will set standards in doing group activity including covid-
19 health protocol.

a. What are the things we need to remember while doing the 1,3,4,5,6
group activity, considering the covid-19 health protocol? 7,9,12
b. What about on how you can help as a member of your group?

The learners will be grouped into 4.

Group 1 and 3 will do the Observation Chart
Group 2 and 4 will answer the Observation Questions.
The learners will be given 5 minutes to finish the activity.
The teacher facilitates a SIMPLE EXPERIMENT with the class in
finding out the materials that BLOCK, ABSORB, or TRANSMIT light.

Materials Needed:
1. flashlight 5. black shirt
2. book 6. Dark bag
3. cellophane 7. eyeglasses
Analysis 4. mirror

ONSERVATION CHART

MATERIALS Block the Absorb the Transmit

Light Light the Light
book
cellophane
mirror
black shirt
dark bag
eyeglasses

Experiment Procedures:

1. Turn on the flashlight. Test if the following materials block, absorb,

or transmit light.
2. Record your answer on the chart. Put check (√) on the proper
column.

Observations:

1. What materials blocked, absorbed, or transmitted the light?

2. Why was the light blocked, absorbed, or transmitted by these
materials?
3. Why we need flashlight in doing the activity? Is the flashlight
helpful?

E. Abstraction 1,3,4,6,7
The learners will present their outputs.
Checking of outputs.
F. Elaboration
The teacher will show more pictures of different materials. The
learners will identify if these materials block, absorb, or transmit light. 1,4,7,8

a. What materials block the light?

b. What about the drinking glass and the glass door?
What are they? Are they transparent? Translucent? Or
Opaque?
c. Are they transmitting light?
d. What materials as shown in the presentation absorb light?

G. Value Focus Reminding the learners that too much exposure to light can bring
harm to one’s body especially to the eyes.

a. What are the things that we need to remember in taking care 1,4,5,6,9
of our eyes?
b. Is it okay to expose our eyes from too much brightness?
c. How can we take care of our eyes?

Enumerating the ways on how to take care of one’s eyes.

There is a quote from Francis Bacon about light. It says “In order for
the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.”
It means that, each one of us has our own light. So no matter what
challenges might arise, we must step into the light and move forward.

H. Generalizations
and Direction: Match Column A to Column B that corresponds to its
Abstractions meaning by drawing a line.
1,3,6,7,
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Read the following situation. Choose the letter of the
correct answer.
1,3,6,7,8
1. When light bounces off a smooth surface, the process that occurs
is ______________________.
A. reflection C. refraction
B. translucent D. transmission

2. What happen to the clear object when it is hit by the light?

A. The light is blocked C. The light is absorbed
B. The light is reflected D. The light is transmitted

3. Which among the following materials absorb light?

A. Clear plastic C. Sunglasses
B. Black T-shirt D. Water

4. An example of material that blocks completely the passage of light

A. Cardboard C. Rock
B. Plywood D. All of the above

5. Light is blocked in ___________materials that does not allow light

to pass through them, creating a shadow of the material It reflects
light.
A. Opaque C. Translucent
B. Optic D. Transparent

V. Assignment 4,7,8
Assignment:
Give the 4 components of a simple circuit and their functions. Write it
in a piece of paper.

Educational Philosophy: “Education is not learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think”
– Albert Einstein

Education is about more than just getting a fancy piece of paper with your name on it. I believe that the purpose
of education is to be able to succeed in whatever it is you want to do in life.
