NBA updates
The Miami Heat secured their spot in the 2024 NBA Playoffs with a convincing 112-91 victory
over the Chicago Bulls.
The Heat, despite missing star Jimmy Butler due to a knee injury, came out firing on all
cylinders. Tyler Herro led the way with a near triple-double, pouring in 24 points, grabbing 10
rebounds, and dishing out 9 assists. Rookie sensation Jaime Jaquez Jr. added a career-high 21
points, showcasing his offensive firepower alongside Herro.
The Bulls, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm all night. DeMar DeRozan,
Chicago’s leading scorer, was held in check by Miami’s stifling defense. The Heat’s physicality
and hustle proved too much for the Bulls to overcome, as Miami built a comfortable lead early
and never looked back.
This win marks the Heat’s second consecutive play-in victory over the Bulls, solidifying their
reputation as a team that thrives in high-pressure situations. Coach Erik Spoelstra praised his
team’s resilience, particularly in the absence of Butler.
“We had to earn this,” Spoelstra said after the game. “We showed great character and stepped up
when it mattered most.”
With this win, the Heat will head to Boston to face the top-seeded Celtics in a highly anticipated
first-round matchup. Both teams boast championship aspirations, making this a series not to be
missed.

Barangay Ginebra Outlasts TNT in Thrilling Encounter, Cone Acknowledges Reyes’ Coaching
Prowess
Pasig City, Philippines – In a nail-biting finish at the Philsports Arena, Barangay Ginebra edged
out TNT Tropang Giga, 87-83, to secure a hard-fought victory in the PBA Philippine Cup. The
win was especially significant for Ginebra head coach Tim Cone, who expressed his respect for
his longtime rival, TNT coach Chot Reyes.
“I really hate playing against Chot,” Cone said in a post-game interview. “He knows me like a
book, and I lose more games than I win against him.”

Cone went on to acknowledge Reyes’ influence on his career, highlighting their collaboration
during the 2023 FIBA World Cup. “We were in the World Cup together,” Cone added. “He asked
me to be there and basically put me in a position to be the national team coach here, so I owe him
all that.”

The game itself was a defensive battle, with both teams trading baskets throughout. Ginebra built
a significant lead in the first half, but TNT clawed their way back in the fourth quarter, forcing a
tense finish. However, clutch plays by Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar down the
stretch secured the win for the Gin Kings.

Despite the rivalry, Cone’s comments showcased the mutual respect between the two coaching
legends. Their shared history, both as competitors and collaborators, adds another layer of
intrigue to their PBA matchups.
