My First Cuff Down Socks

Needle size: 1.5 with 40" cable


pattern written in magic loop style
Yarn: 400 yards fingering weight
Gauge: 8sts/inch
Size: Women's S(M,L)

Using the cabled cast on, CO 56(64,72) stitches and join for knitting in the round.

Cuff: K2, P2 around. Repeat this round until piece measures 1" from beginning.

Leg: Knit all stitches until piece measures 6" from beginning or desired length to
top of ankle. Knit across needle one (instep stitches). These stitches will
remain on the cable while you work back on forth on needle two.

Heel flap:
Row 1(RS): Sl1, K1 across.
Row 2(WS): Sl1 pw, purl across.
Repeat these two rows a total of 14(16,18) times.

Heel turn:
Row 1(RS): Sl1, k 15(17,19) ssk, k1, turn.
Row 2(WS): Sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
Repeat these two rows (knitting or purling the stitch before and after the
gap together) until all stitches have been worked: 16(18,20) sts remain.

Gusset:
Knit across the heel stitches. Pick up and knit 14(16,18) sts down the side of
the heel flap including one st between the heel and instep. Now knit across
the instep stitches. Next, pick up and knit 14(16,18) sts up the heel flap
including one between the instep and heel. Knit across rest of heel stiches.
There are 44(50,56) sts on needle 2.
Round 1: Knit across needle 1. On needle 2, k1, ssk, k to 3 sts from end, k2tog, k1.
Round 2: Knit.
Repeat these two rounds until there are 28(32,36) sts left on needle 2.

Foot:
Knit even until foot measures 2" less than the intended wearer’s foot length.
(For example, if the foot is 9", work until bottom of piece measures 7".)

Toe:
Round 1: K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts from end of needle 1, k2tog, k1. Repeat on
needle two. (4 sts decreased)
Round 2: Knit. Repeat these two rounds until there are 20 sts left.
Graft toe together using Kitchener stitch.
Repeat for second sock.
