Pre-assessment of current knowledge: I will show students the animal cards before we start and we will talk about what animals are on the cards to determine
if they know what those animals are or if we need to talk about them first.

For each student I will make a checklist with the list of
animals on the animal cards. If the student is able to come
up with a movement that represents that animal, they will
get a check so I know they can think symbolically about that
animal.
Program Monitoring: (How will you aggregate or compile
your evidence into a class or group view?)
I will compile each individual student checklist into one
spreadsheet to compare who has begun to think
symbolically and who needed extra support from the teacher
or another classmate.
Academic Language:
Animals on cards (listed in materials)
Walk, jump, run, stomp, any other movement term
Procedural steps:
A stack of picture cards with animals on them will be spread
out face down on the floor.
Students will be called up one by one to pick a card.
Student will choose a card, flip it over, and the whole class
will be asked to act like that animal.
Once they have determined their movement, the whole class
will walk, jump, run, stomp, etc. around the room.
Students will sit back down in between each animal card.

Differentiation:
Some students may not be able to think symbolically or may
not have heard of one of the animals. If this occurs, I will
give suggestions to help boost their thinking or have them
work with a classmate to brain storm ideas for movements.
Authentic Materials: (Describe authentic real-life, hands-on
materials.)
Animal picture cards (lion, bird, alligator, dog, cat, elephant,
fish, horse, rabbit)
- List could be expanded or shortened based on the
number of students in the class
Adult Roles:
Facilitate students picking their animal card
Aid students who need extra help coming up with movement
ideas
