“Sa Pula, Sa Puti”

By Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo

Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo was a famous Filipino writer and he is known for his play “Sa Pula, Sa
Puti.”

As we watched the short film of “Sa Pula, Sa Puti,” adapted by Grade 12 STEM 3 students’ is about
the couple Kulas and Celing. Kulas is obsessed with cockfighting (Sabong), leading to frequent
arguments with his wife. However, he tries to convince her that they will win because of his meaningful
dreams. Eventually, Kulas ends up promising to stop cockfighting.

One day, a friend tells Kulas about an old man who can bring him luck. That night, Kulas meets the
old man, and things change. He starts winning in cockfights and earns lots of money, but loses his wife in
return.

My reaction to the video was pretty good overall. The actors portrayed the characters very well, the
background music also kept me engaged. However, I felt disappointed to the main actors performances,
they could have done better, and the plot was a bit confusing, even though it had a twist. But, all in all, it
was still enjoyable.

The film "Sa Pula, Sa Puti" teaches us the importance of prioritizing what truly matters in life and
avoiding destructive habits like gambling.”
