ENGLISH CLASS II LP 2

UNIT-3B

4 PERIODS

‘WIND AND THE SUN’:

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 The students will have better listening skills.

 Enhanced vocabulary through word-play
 Will learn the importance of good manners and teamwork
 Will learn to make short sentences with words from the text
 They will learn to value the work of other people.

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY: The teacher will initiate a discussion regarding stories of the sun, wind,
moon, etc. which the students may have heard at home. They will be asked about the things that they get
from the Sun. They will be asked about what would happen if the Sun did not rise in the morning. Why do
we need Wind? Is it alright to snatch things from others?

TEACHING PROCEDURE: The teacher will read the lesson aloud with correct pronunciation and pauses.
The reading will be dramatized by the teacher so that the children will join when the sounds of the wind,
sun, and man are made. Individual reading guided by the teacher will commence. Exercises will follow.
Doing words will be introduced.

TLM:

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPrSzQzhr3Q. This story talks about good manners and sharing

using the sun, wind, and moon as examples.
2. The teacher will make a chart with illustrations showing different ‘doing’ words. The students will
identify them.

METHODOLOGY: Interactive and task based.

The teacher will read the lesson with the appropriate expressions and sounds. The students will take on the
role of the Sun, Wind, and the Man and read in groups. New words in the lesson will be repeated aloud for
the correct pronunciation. While the reading is taking place, the teacher can ask for rhyming words of some
of the words like, sun, cold, coat, hot, etc.

The teacher will ask the students to enact the lesson by assuming different roles. They may add more
ideas too.

DOING WORDS: Words that show some kind of action are called ‘doing words’. All doing words have some
activity in them and they are characterized by ‘--ing’ at the end of the words. For example: running,
jumping, shouting, playing, etc. The teacher can call out a few students and ask them to ‘do’ a few actions
like jumping, eating, drinking, fighting, etc. The children will have to give the correct answer and make a
sentence with the word using -ing. This will give them a better idea of what constitutes an action word. List
of doing words will be given so that children will understand the change in spelling while using -ing.
