DEPARTMENT OF F.Y.BTECH
MID SEMESTER EXAMINATION
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
TIME : 2 Hr MAX MARKS : 50
TOTAL NO OF QUESTIONS: 3 TOTAL NO OF PRINTED PAGES: 3
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
1. Assume suitable data wherever necessary
2. Non programmable scientific calculators are allowed
3. Black figures to the right indicate full marks

1 Solve any three

a) Select the circuit component of load (R, L/C) such that it [6] CO1 L2
draws a power of 5 kW at 0.8 power factor (Lagging)
when connected to a 230V, 1 phase, 50Hz source.
b) A motor coil of 15Ω resistance and inductance of 0.1H is [6] CO1 L3
connected in series with capacitor across 200V supply.
Then a capacitor value is varied in order that current in
the coil to rise to maximum value at 50Hz. Predict the
value of capacitance in the circuit and voltage across it.
Also find the power consumed by circuit.
c) A coil having resistance of 50 ohm and inductance of [6] CO1 L3
0.02 H is connected in parallel with a capacitor of 35 μF
across a single phase 200 V, 50 Hz A.C. supply.
Calculate the branch current and total current drawn by
the circuit.

d) Two impedances of 20∠−45° Ω and 30∠30° Ω are [6] CO1 L3
connected in series across a certain supply and the
resulting current is found to be 10 A. If the supply voltage
remains unchanged, calculate the supply current when
the impedances are connected in parallel.
2 a) Each phase of star-connected load has a resistance of [8] CO3 L3
30 W and a capacitance of 50µF in series. Determine (a)
line current and phase current, (b) the total power
consumed (c) the kVA, when the load is connected to a
440 V, 3-phase, 50 Hz supply.
b) A delta-connected load draws a current of 15 ampere at [8] CO2 L3
a lagging power factor of 0.85 from a 440 V, 50 Hz, 3-
phase supply. Find the resistance and inductance of
each phase. Also calculate the power dissipation if
connected in star.
3 Solve any two
a) Output characteristics of common emitter configuration is [8] CO2 L3
shown in graph. Determine the ICsat, VCEsat, ICQ and VCEQ
referred to the graph.

[2]
b) Design a Power supply for powering circuit at fixed [8] CO3 L3
positive18Volt
Draw the circuit diagram with waveforms. -------4M
Give specification of transformer secondary and diode
selection with PIV justification. --------3M.
Calculate ripple factor of bridge rectifier capacitive filter
for 1000μF & load resistance 220Ω--------1M
