Flam, crochet fox pattern

by Sonja van der Wijk

Before you start

This pattern is written in standard American terms. It's useful the read it before you start. If you
use the recommended yarn, your fox will be about 8,3 inch/ 21 cm tall. Because the size of the
doll is dependent on the yarn you use and how tight you crochet, it's useful to experiment with
the eye size, despite my recommendation. I strongly recommend a fuzzy yarn for this fox. The
yarn I've used is Lopi light/ Lètt lopi, a 100% wool. The fox is worked in the round/ spirals. You can
use a paper clip as stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round. Move it up each time you
start a new round. About changing colour: I write the stitches in which you'll need to change
colour behind the description of the round, so read the whole line before you start. Always
change the colour in the last loop of the stitch, so the loop on the hook you end with, will be the
new colour. That means, the next stitch is in the new colour, not the one you changed in. At Son's
Popkes is a tips & tricks category. Here you can find extra useful info regarding my patterns.

Materials
You need worsted weight yarn and a E US/3,5 mm crochet hook. Three colours of yarn, orange
(3/4 of a 100 yard skein), brown (1/5) and white (1/4). Also some colours for the scarf. The
quantities are estimates. For the eyes I've used 8 mm animal eyes. You will also need fibrefill and
pellets for a bit of extra weight in the body (I use Hama beads). Pipe cleaners are optional. Lopi
colour numbers: 1410, 0867 and 0051.

Accessories
Hook E US / 3,5 mm, scissors, embroidery needle, and stitch markers or paper clips.

Abbreviations: ch =chain, sc =single crochet, st =stitch, sl st =slip stitch, dc=double crochet

stitch, s2tog = decrease.

The scarf
I made a striped flat scarf, which was not handy, because very much ends needed to be weaved
in. So if you want to make a quicker, neater one, just use one colour.
It's in double crochet stitches, in rows, so add two turning chains every new round, after you
turn. I changed colour in the last st of each row, right before the turn, so my ch 2 was always in
the new colour.

Row 1. ch of 5, in 3rd ch from hook, dc, dc in next 2 st = 4Now turn after each round and add ch 2.
My scarve is 25 rows long.

Assembling the fox

Start with the head. First pin all the parts, and pick a spot for the eyes. Mine are placed between
the 6th and 7th round counted from the top of the head. But just look at your fox to see where the
eyes look best, insert them without the backs, unpin and un-stuff and attach the eyes, then stuff
again (firmly) and pin on ears and muzzle again. The muzzle is a bit stuffed and placed one row
above the hole of the head to between the 7 th and 8th round counted from the top of the head
(make sure the white bits of both parts line up). The nose I placed above round 1. The ears are
attached at the middle of the head, between round 1 and 7.

The first 30% of the body is filled with pellets to give it some weight, but no pellets will do too.
On top of the pellets you put the fibrefill. Stuff flexible. The hands and feet also need some
pellets or a tiny bit of stuffing just in the ends. Also, these pieces are closed before sewed to the
body. The tail is stuffed lightly and not closed.

Now you can sew the head to the body. Prevent the neck from becoming to small. (If your bodies
neck seems tighter than the head, crochet that last round again but more loose.) The legs are
pinned and sewed to the middle of the body, next to round 1, the tail is pinned and sewed
between the 4th and 5th round counted from the bottom and the arms are pinned and sewed one
row below the head. Put the scarf on if you made one and voila, you've finished your fabulous
fox!
