 Introduction
• solar water heater is a device the receive the heat from sun and it convert the cold
water in to hot water
• solar water heater is a renewable energy technology as we know solar radiation is
free of cost as well as it available in unlimited quantity
• It is also called as domestic hot water system

Aim and objectives

• The purpose of this project is to heat water by using the sun ray’s.
 Types of solar water heater

There’re two major type of water heaters

1.Active solar water heater

(a)Direct circulation type
(b)Indirect circulation type

2.Passive solar water heater

(a)Thermosiphon type
(b)Integrated solar collector type
Solar water heating system performs three
basic operation
Collection: solar radiation is captured by
solar collector.

Transfer: circulation fluids transfer this

energy to a storage tank, circulation can be
natural (thermosiphon system) or forced,
using a circulator (low head pump)

Storage: hot water is stored untill it is

needed at a later time in a mechanical
room, or on the roof in case of a
thermosiphon system.
 Components of solar water heater

1. Solar collector(Flat plate collector)

2. Storage tank
3. Heat exchanger

5. Heat transfer fluid

7. Connecting pipes and instruments

ADVANTAGES
• solar water heater is available in different size
• it's efficiency is higher it receives 80% of solar radiation
• Solar water heating systems is cost saving
• requirement of less maintenance
• solar water heater is pollution free

DISADVANTAGES
• scale placed at inner portion of storage tank due to different minerals
in normal water, so we have to remove
• it depends on condition of weather it will not works in rainy, cloudy and
foggy season cloud
• we have to install this system on the roof or in open area we cannot
install it inside the house or room
APPLICATIONS
• solar water heater is used for houses application

• it is used in community centers

• it is used in hospital and nursing homes

• it is used in hotels and restaurant

• it is used in dairy plants and different industries

• solar water heater is used in swimming pools
