What is
Mental Health?
Is it a state of mind?
Defining
Mental Health
Mental health is a positive concept.
It encompasses our emotions, our psyche, and our
social interactions.

Just like physical health, mental health is an essential aspect

of overall well-being. It affects your thoughts, emotions,
relationships, and your ability to handle different situations.
More than a
State of Mind
Having good mental health is more
than the absence of illness. Rather,
it's a state of holistic well-being.
More Common
than You Think
According to Mental Health
Foundation, 20% of
adolescents may experience
a mental health problem in
any given year.
How Do I
Maintain
Positive Mental
Health?
Practical tips and advice
Coping Strategies
Healthy coping strategies manage your
emotions and stress. These can include
deep breathing exercises, engaging in
physical activities, talking to a trusted
adult, journaling, practicing mindfulness
or relaxation techniques, or engaging in
hobbies you enjoy.
SELF-CARE
It's important to take care of your
own well-being. For example
getting enough sleep, eating
nutritious food, exercising, and
engaging in activities you enjoy.
Self-care activities can positively
impact their mental health.
When do I seek
professional help?
It's okay to ask for help when you need it.. It's
important to talk to a trusted adult, such as a
parent, teacher, friend, or school counselor, if
you are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing
persistent feelings of sadness or worry.
Seeking help is a sign of strength.
INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY: UNLOADING
MY EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE
All participants are encouraged to form a big circle for the activity.
Afterwhich, the facilitator will distribute a marker and two pieces of colored bond
papers to each participant.
Participants are tasked to write down the things they are grateful for in one piece of
colored paper. On another piece of paper, they are free to write down their biggest
insecurities and the things or concerns they want to unload or stop. Names shouldn’t
be written on any part of the paper.
For example:
Piece 1: I am grateful for my healthy family relationships and for all the people who have
become my support system. I am grateful for our everyday blessings.
Piece 2: I, sometimes, happen to feel a little bit lonely and anxious about the things around
me.
Language to be used can be in English, Tagalog, Iloco, or mixed.
Upon finishing the writing activity, the participants are going to drop their colored
papers into a box.
Five (5) or more people will be called to pick out any paper from the box and give their
message or pieces of advice to those people. The presenters will randomly be chosen
through the “Pass the Rock” challenge wherein a music will be turned on, be stopped,
and the last person to hold the rock will do this segment.
Once the sharing is done, a vlog will be shown to everyone. Afterwhich, two volunteers
will answer the following question:
(a) What is your biggest learning today?
(b) Why do mental health matters?
If participants are done with the activity, raising awareness about mental health is
highly encouraged. Participants may opt to post their “Mental Health Matters”
experience today and tag the official Facebook account of Singising Sinait.
Participants will then proceed to the next activity.
What is your biggest
learning today?
Why do mental
health matters?
Remember!
Prioritizing your mental health can
provide a strong foundation for your
overall well-being and equip you with
the necessary tools to effectively
manage any challenges you may
encounter as you progress.
