Present Simple: 1) Routines, facts, habits


2) Stative verbs
3) We use do + verb to emphasize the action

Present Continuous: 1) Actions happening now


2) Changing situations

Past Simple: Habits and facts in the past

Past Continuous: 1) Action in progress, temporary or changing situation in the past.


2) For background information

 We can join these two tenses, when the action in progress is interrupted by
another action. We use the past continuous for the action in progress and past
simple for the action that interrupted.

 PHRASAL VERBS
Do up – repair sth old
Move in – to start living in a different house or flat
Move out – to leave the house or flat where you live
Pull down – to destroy a building
Put up – let sb stay in your house
Rent out – to allow a house, room, office that you own to be used by somebody who
pays you regularly for using it
Settle in – to go and live permanently in a particular place
Tidy up – to make a place look better by putting things in the correct place 78
