INTRODUCTION

In today's dynamic market landscape, understanding consumer preferences and trends is

paramount for the success of any product. This introduction presents an overview of a
comprehensive marketing research study on handkerchiefs with customizable patches,
intending to reveal insights that can help inform strategic decisions and improve market
competitiveness.

Handkerchiefs have long been a basic item, providing both functionality and style. With
the growing trend of personalization and unique expression, customizable patches offer an
exciting possibility to respond to a wide range of consumer likes and preferences
(Rauschnabel & Brem, 2016). Allowing customers to personalize their handkerchiefs with
patches allows firms to capitalize on the growing desire for unique and customizable items
(Schreier, 2006).

This marketing research project takes a multidimensional strategy, combining

qualitative and quantitative approaches to acquire a thorough insight into the market
landscape (Hooley et al., 2012). Using surveys, focus groups, and in-depth interviews, we
intend to investigate customer opinions, preferences, and purchasing behavior for
handkerchiefs with customizable patches. Market study and competition benchmarking
will also help you understand industry trends, competitive positioning, and prospective
growth prospects (Kotler & Keller, 2015).

As we proceed with our research, we acknowledge the contributions of past studies and
industry reports that provided the groundwork for our examination. We aim to provide
actionable insights that help drive product innovation and marketing tactics, ultimately
improving consumer pleasure and brand loyalty by building on current knowledge and
applying contemporary approaches.

2.7 Historical Demand

YEAR POPULATION % DEMAND DEMAND

2023 40,314 96% 38,701

2022 40,627 96% 39,002

2021 38,325 96% 36,792

2020 35, 599 96% 34,175

2019 34,104 96% 32,740

Table 2.1 Demand based on population

● The population data used for the assessment of demand were obtained from the
Barangay Hall of Pasong Buaya II.
● The demand percentage from the survey is multiplied by the population dataset to
determine the total demand.

2.8 Projected Demand

YEAR POPULATION % DEMAND DEMAND

2023 40,314 96% 38,701

2024 42, 020 96% 40,339

2025 43,799 96% 42,047

2026 45, 653 96% 43,827

2027 47,585 96% 45,682

Table 2.2 Demand based on projected population

● Using information from the Barangay Hall of Pasong Buaya II, an average percentage
growth rate calculated over the previous five years is used to determine the population
increase.
● Finding the average yearly population growth rate is the first step in forecasting the
expected population. To perform this computation, the population of the most recent
year is subtracted from the population of the preceding year. After the subtraction, the
resultant difference is divided by the population of the year before to get the percentage
growth from the year before to the current year. After that, this process is carried out
12
every year until the total % increase is determined. The average growth rate is obtained
by adding up all of the annual percentage growth rates and dividing that total by the
number of calculated percentages.

36,153 (2020) - 34,104 (2019) = 2049 / 34,104 = 0.06 or 6%

(Percentage increase from the year 2019 to 2020)

38,325 (2021) - 36,153 (2020) = 2172 / 36,153 = 0.064 or 6.4%

(Percentage increase from the year 2020 to 2021)

40,627 (2022) - 38,325 (2021) = 2302 / 38,325 = 0.06 or 6%

(Percentage increase from the year 2021 to 2022)

40,134 (2023) - 40,627 (2022) = -313 / 40,627 = 0.0077 or zero

(There is no percent increase from the year 2022 to 2023)

6% + 6.4% + 6% + 0 = 0.184 or 18.4% / 4 = 0.046 or 4.6%

(Average increase of population per year)

● To calculate the total projected demand, the survey's percentage of projected demand
is multiplied by the projected population.

2.9 Historical Supply

YEAR POPULATION % SUPPLY SUPPLY

2023 40,314 92% 37,089

2022 40,627 92% 37,377

2020 35,599 92% 32,751

2019 34,104 92% 31, 376

Table 2.3 Supply based on population

● The population used to calculate supply was sourced from the Pasong Buaya II
Barangay Hall.
● To get the total supply, the survey's percentage of supply is multiplied by the
population.

2.10 Projected Supply

YEAR POPULATION % DEMAND DEMAND

2023 40,314 92% 37,089

2024 42, 020 92% 38, 658

2025 43,799 92% 40, 295

2026 45, 653 92% 42,001

2027 47,585 92% 43, 778

Table 2.4 Supply based on projected population

● In accordance to the acquired information from Barangay Pasong Buaya II, utilizing
the average percentage growth over the preceding approximately five years, the
population increase is computed.
After that, this process is carried out
every year until the total % increase is determined. The average growth rate is obtained
by adding up all of the annual percentage growth rates and dividing that total by the
number of calculated percentages.
● To calculate the total projected supply, the survey's percentage of projected supply is
multiplied by the projected population.

2.11 Demand and Supply Gap

YEAR PROJECTED PROJECTED GAP % TARGET

DEMAND SUPPLY MARKET MARKET
SHARE

2023 38,701 37,089 1612 26.8% 432

2024 40,339 38,658 1681 26.8% 451

2025 42,047 40,295 1752 26.8% 470

2026 43,827 42,001 1826 26.8% 489

2027 45,682 43,778 1904 26.8% 510

14
● The Gap is calculated by subtracting the estimated projected supply from the
projected demand.

38 701 (Projected Demand) - 37 089 (Projected Supply) = 1612 (Gap)

40 339 (Projected Demand) - 38 658 (Projected Supply) = 1681 (Gap)
42 047 (Projected Demand) - 40 295 (Projected Supply) = 1752 (Gap)
43 827 (Projected Demand) - 42 001 (Projected Supply) = 1826 (Gap)
45 682 (Projected Demand) - 43 778 (Projected Supply) = 1904 (Gap)

● The Target Market was identified by multiplying the percentage of market share by
the gap.

26.8% (Market Share) - 1612 (Gap) = 432 (Target Market)

26.8% (Market Share) - 1681 (Gap) = 451 (Target Market)
26.8% (Market Share) - 1752 (Gap) = 470 (Target Market)
26.8% (Market Share) - 1826 (Gap) = 489 (Target Market)
26.8% (Market Share) - 1904 (Gap) = 510 (Target Market)

2.12 Market Share

CHAPTER 6

SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECT

6.1 Objectives of the Study

● Analyze the affordability and possible financial gains for makers and consumers of
handkerchiefs with DIY patches.
● Examine how DIY patches help users and local communities interact in the community,
be creative, and adopt sustainable practices.
● Analyze how DIY patches promote community interaction, creativity, and adoption of
sustainable practices among users and local communities.

6.2 To the Customers

Consumers profit monetarily when they DIY mend handkerchiefs rather than purchasing
new ones. Socially, they take pleasure in originality and customization, and by prolonging the
life of their handkerchiefs, they help reduce waste. Customers may express themselves
sustainably and save money thanks to this twofold benefit.

6.3 To the Community

Increased manufacturing and sales of DIY patches can benefit the local economy,
especially if small businesses or artisans participate. This can result in the creation of jobs and
support for local suppliers. In terms of social interaction, do-it-yourself patching fosters a
culture of sustainability and resourcefulness in the community by encouraging skill-sharing,
teamwork, and involvement in local markets or handicraft events. In general, the social and
economic effects of do-it-yourself patching support a dynamic and interdependent local
ecology.

6.4 To the Government

By extending the life of textile products and reducing waste, DIY patching can help
governments save money by easing the burden on waste management equipment and resources.
Social policies that support sustainable activities, such as do-it-yourself repair and reuse
programs, can complement governmental objectives related to social responsibility and
environmental conservation. All things considered, including such regulations can have
positive social and economic effects, coordinating governmental actions with more general
sustainability goals.

74
6.5 To the Employers/Employees
Employees and staff involved in the manufacturing and retailing of do-it-yourself
patches could gain from new employment opportunities or other revenue streams, especially in
models that emphasize regional or community-based production. This has a good social impact
in addition to supporting economic stability by boosting workers' feelings of pride and
belonging. All things considered, worker participation in do-it-yourself patch manufacturing
can result in increased social cohesiveness and economic empowerment.

6.6 To the Environment

Socially, DIY patches improve the environment by reducing water consumption and
chemical pollution associated with textile manufacture. They also assist in reducing the amount
of textile waste that ends up in landfills. In summary, do-it-yourself patching reduces resource
consumption and lessens environmental effects, which helps to promote a more sustainable
methodology for textile use.
